Has anyone accurized a Ruger Magnum? What did you do? Did it work? I have a Timney Trigger, Pachmayer Pad, White front bead, and Warne QD Rings otherwise it is stock. I have not really spent any time working on groups. With the 1.5X5 scope I do not seem to be able to get the greatest groups at 100 yds. Maybe 2-3" at best. I was thinking of trying a higher powered scope and maybe some handloads. Any comments for people with the same gun would be appreciated. Thanks

I answered this post the other day but apparently it didn't get in. I have a Model 77 in 338 WM and it shoot well - 5/8" three shot groups - its a MKI model with nothing done to it. At this site, http://stevespages.com/table1.html, he shoots hardly anything but Ruger 77's and he advocates free floating the barrel - read his stories - they are great intertainment - he writes well. I have seen where he has chimed in to this site. In a used custom 270 I have I was having similar results as you - I free floated the barrel and fiberglass bedded the stock - big difference - 3/8" groups. As for my 77 I will glass bed the action - just because when you tighten down the action the wood does not compress - I may not free float the barrel - but I may sand down the existing pressure point at the end of the stock and replace with glass bedding - some barrels like pressure - some don't. So experiment and have fun.
