I've been to Z-Hat's site and researched the 411 Hawk somewhat. It's seems to me to be about as much as one is going to get out of an '06 based case. On prior A-R threads that I've searched there isn't much info or details about the .416 Gibbs (based on the 30-06 cartridge...not the .505). Is there enough shoulder on that case to be practical? Anybody know of any links to any data on the .416 Gibbs or gunsmiths that work with this cartridge?

There has been other posts looking at the 416 and there just is not enough shoulder left on the improved 06 case. The shoulder on the 411 is enough and there is not much difference (.005)in the bullets to make much difference.

Some data I had was a 300 grain bullet at 2550 (375 H&H) fps sighted in 3.5 inches high at 100 yds was 9 inches low at 300 and had over 2600 ft pds of energy. This is a lot of power and would let you hold on an Elks shoulder and drop it. Z-Hat builds a lot of these and a response I received from an outfitter in Alaska said he can't tell the difference on bears out to 200 yds compaired to his 375 H&H. All this with just over 60 grains of H4895. Recoil in not bad with this gun. Exciting power for a 06 case.

I found out a long time ago that to get the velocities that Gibbs claimed you had to be on the edge of total destruction.

IMHO one must go to at least a short magnum case to get decent balistics with any 375 cal and up...otherwise he is well advised to go with the 9.3x62 to get big bore killing power. Thats about the least amount of shoulder I want when all is said and done on a 06 case. You still get sufficient velocity and great killing power...
