frank4570Time to gear up for my .458 win mag.
My rifle parts are coming in. So now I need reloading components.
Let me see...... dies and shell holder, probably lock stock and barrel. Brass same as the dies I guess.
Bullets. I have a bullet maker friend(mt Baldy Bullets) I am going to try first with some 300 and 400gr bullets.
Powder. Please make suggestions. One goal is going to be light accurate bullets. I currently don't need to be able to shoot 500gr bullets.
And some large magnum primers. Probably federal if they are available.
Is that it? I think that's it.

The MazIMR 4895 is my preferred powder in the .458 Win.

Don In ColoradoI have found AA 2230 to be a great powder with 400 grain Woodleigh Protected Point bullets.

ScottSfrank4570,
My 458 is very fond of IMR3031 and Rel7 along with 405gr Rem FP. These make excellent practice loads. The 400gr Woodleighs don't shoot quite as well as the Rems do, but do hit to the same point of aim (I use the same powders for the Woodleighs). I am using CCI250 primers and Remington cases.

JTEXI gotta go +1 on the 405 Remmies, but I use IMR4064 with very accurate results.

.458 Only
As I already said in another thread, Frank: 405 Rems and as Jeff said: RL-7 or H335

I shoot those 405s in my CZ at XXXX fps using RL-7. They shoot MOA, or close anyway.
