I was perusing my copy of "The Modern Gunsmith" by James V Howe last night and rediscovered that he has barrel and chamber dimensional data in there (Vol-2) on the 10.75x68 Mauser! Then I got to thinking that this was the same guy who left Griffin & Howe to work for Hoffman Arms - Is this not correct? So he very well could have been the one to make the 10.75x68 Hoffman Arms rifle that has traded hands a few times recently.

For reference he lists the barrel muzzle diam for the 10.75x68 & the .404 Rimless Magnum at .690" for a 24" to 26" barrel. A bit lighter than the Mauser .404 Jeff dimension of .710" that I saw mentioned.

Howe did not last long with Hoffman’s at Cleveland and left before the move to Oklahoma. If the rifle was an early Hoffman Howe could have worked on it. In my collection I have A Cleveland-Hoffman No. 24 that Howe signed in the barrel channel.

As has been told here, this was an Amarillo, TX made variant. As uncommon as that chambering is I just couldn't help but wonder about the connection as I read "The Modern Gunsmith".

I'll take a peek when I get back in town - I don't recall any however. How your replacement 10.75x68 coming along? Interesting connection though isn't it? You have "The Modern Gunsmith" book don't you??? Ray - don't let me down on this one Bud! I've go the two in one volume but it is quite amazing the amount of information in that book!

An original Cleveland Hoffman circular list the 10.75mm as using a 347 grain bullet at 2404 fps, sorry no loading data given.

Ray is correct on MY Hoffman rifle. It is a sweet shooter. This past weekend the rifle was shot for grouping. Four separate loads shot into .5 inch at 50 yrds. The front sight needs to be lower or we would have shot at 100 yds.. This is one nice iron sight rifle. This has a great barrel.

I had a copy, lent it to someone, Jack? maybe, can't recall....

My project is near completion, but not in a custom stock, in an old SAko Mauser stock...I will stock it in a schenable, side panel Obendorf stock as soon as I finish my 416 Rem thats about to go into the checkering cradle today and off to the rust bluer tomorrow...The there is the 404, it also is coming along..Building 3 at a time is something I won't do again...It just that all the actions showed up at the same time.
