They must be fair game now, eh?
Mitch T. Mittelstaedt, the Hornady engineer who designed the cartridge is quoted repeatedly in the article by Mark. A. Keefe, IV.

MTM were the initials on the "375 Ruger Max Cart." drawing some of us have seen.

Same dimensions are shown in a more limited drawing on page 56 of this publication.

Now we have the go ahead on the ".395 Ruger Max" cartridge, eh, Max? thumb

Mr. Keefe says "Case capacity of the new cartridge is 96 grains of water, which is actually about 6 percent greater than the .375 H&H's 90 grs."

Double-based ball powders first used in the Hornady Light Magnum loads are used in the .375 Ruger. Higher amounts of nitroglycerin. Long-duration pressure curves start out slowly and become progressively faster.

Special powder is said to account for an extra 50 fps.

Pressure max is same as for the .375 H&H, about 62,000 psi.

"Handloaders can come very close to duplicating factory ballistics." So says MTM.

I say there is air space in the factory loads, and handloaders can probably better the factory ballistics with slower powders and a little compression: H4350 Extreme. But will our pressures be 62,000 psi or less?

I measured the .375 Hornady fireformed cases from my Hawkeye and got a gross water capacity of 101.1 grains average for 5 cases.

I have a lot of fireformed .375 H&H cases that hold 6% more water than 90 grains.

But it is certain, the .375 Ruger is a little bigger than the .375 H&H.

Mitch is a young fellah of about 35 or so and a genuinely nice guy. He was instrumental in the developement of the .450 Marlin and other Hornady developements. He's a class act!!!

That case should be large enough to put the 416 Taylor and maybe even the 416 Rem Mag out of business.

Thanks oldun. It gets better for me too. thumb

I had another order in with Dave Manson, due to be shipped in "a few weeks" so he said he could ship the .375 Ruger reamer and Go guage along with it.

Sounds like Dave Manson may be stocking up on .375 Ruger reamers, on a hunch there may be some demand for them.

Wouldn't it be nice if they were a stock item shipped same day? Wink

Mitch was also the engineer on Hornady's .450/.400 project.

So is the 400 @ 2150 an exceptable number for you Big Bore Double guys? It seems that would be alot easier on a converted double action vs full pressure 470 loads. ???

I emailed CZ to ask if they would be makeing a 375 ruger and they replied that they had no plans to make one. ER Shaw says they have reamers and can ship 375 Ruger barrels now.
