Alf,
I see that the Beartooth hardcast, gaschecked, lead bullets are 380-grainers, sized to .424"?
And what muzzle velocity do you reckon they attained when you penetrated steel rams with them?

And the Barnes bullets were the TSX 400-grainers (probably .422" actual diameter), at what MV?

There is reason then to continue experiments with the .510-cal/777-grain FNGC (NEI mould), in the 500 Mbogo. Wink

Ditto the .730-cal/1372-grain Triple-Foster-Darwin (TFD) "Natural Selectors" (Brooks Mould), in the 12GaFH.

Ditto the .396-cal/410-grain LFNGC (LBT mould), in the 400/.395 Nitro Express 3-Inch Aboriginal.

A pet peeve of mine is the addition of an "s" on the end of "Jeffery" when not used as a plural or possessive. The latter requires an apostrophe.

Yes it was Jeffery's creation of the 404 Jeffery that was the first and greatest ever bolt action DGR. Still no flies on that one. thumb

Does "404 Jefferys" mean "more than one 404 Jeffery rifle?"

However "404 Jefferys" as a singular is more forgiveable than "404 Jeffreys" or "404 Jeffries"
when referring most respectfully to the right honorable "404 Jeffery." Wink

I tried some cast bullet loads in mine, but don't like the mess & hassle cleaning before shooting jacjeted. So instead, for cheap plinkers, I size down 300gr jacketed 44mag bullets. They are pretty cheap, shoot extremely well to 100yds & I don't have to clean before shooting/testing my hunting loads.

+1 on that attitude. The Jeffery name deserves the respect of being correctly spelled.

As to casting for the 404, I have been doing that for some time now and have had great sucess with a mould I designed and had made. It is for a 350gn Gas Check Lino bullet and has shot into .33 at 55 yds of the bench through an aperture sight over 63gn H4350 at 1900fps

I have a heavier load of 74gn Varget for 2365 and 1.1in which I use for recoil recovery practice for multiple shots on a 8x8in steel plate.

I also made a 90/10 WW/Lino load that I heat treated and over 87gns H4350 for 2416 still get 1.1in 55yd groups but the hassel of ht outweight the advantage of the extra vel which isn't enough above the previous 74gn Varget/lino load to be worth it but good to have developed as lino is getting harder to come by although I got another 120lb or so the other week.

The first pic is 350 & 400gn Woodleigh softs + solid, RWS 350soft and 400 solid then my 350gn lino GC and 400gn PB with 3 Barnes to finish.

My cast load is 3rd from left.

Von Gruff,
Thanks for the ammo porn, that is a sexy cast boolit you got there.
If sumbuddy wanted to get that mould, where would they go to order it?

Does it use a .44RemMag handgun gas check, or a .416 rifle gas check?

Must be working very well, whichever. thumb

Also, does it come from the mould in proper diameter or, what sizer?

Eureka!! A friend has an NEI GC mould that has the shank sized to take a standard 44 caliber GC. He is off for the long weekend, but said I could use the mould Tuesday. I will let you all know in a week or so RE accuracy and velocity.
