I am new to this sight and I am wanting to get in to big bore shooting I curently owne a NEF in .500 S&W Mag I dont know if that realy qualifies for this page but it dose kick pritty good and most loads have a TKO of 58 or higher but my main question is I am looking for a good .458 Win Mag that dose not brake the bank, I do reload and I would like this round becose of avlibility of Brass and cost of shooting it...

I am open to any style of gun but am a big fan of the Dubble Rifle but I know there is not one out there for under $800.......

Check the used gun racks of your local gun stores. Often, there is a .375 or .458 to be had.

Please note that shooting a handgun round in a rifle is by no stretch of the imagination akin to touching off a .458 Win. Mag. You should consider working up to that level of recoil by judicious use of reduced loads.

I just recently got my first big bore and from what I found out, the CZ 550 Safari magnum is a good bang for the buck. I wanted a 458 Lott but everyone wanted around $1000 to order one for me. I found a new CZ 550 in 458 win mag that had been at this one shop for quiet a while so I got it at a good price. I paid $670 for the rifle and then rented a reamer and had a gunsmith ream it out for the 458 Lott. I saved around $100 doing it this way. The CZ is a very strong and accurate rifle and I am very please with mine so far. I didn't even have to have any rail work done to get it to feed reliably. It has fed everything I have tried it it so far without any problems. Have you considered the Lott ? It is just a little longer than the win mag but it can be loaded down to 45/70 levels just like the win mag. The Lott has became the more popular of the two due to it's ability to handle the 500 grainers better but yet it still offers inexpensive brass and loading dies.

I have been looking on used racks but the shops around me feel a used gun is worth the same as a new one no matter the conditon... wich kind of bklows but I am still serching, I will agree with you on the Hand gun round in a rifle thery my .44 mag rifle I can shoot one handed but I dont know about my .500 S&W Mag when I am shooting corbon 440gr Hard Cast I can only get 3 shots off on the bench and my right arm is tigling from the recoil of the gun but the gun ways in at about 4lbs so that is one thery too I have some 385 BCHPs that are loaded very hot and when i tuch them off every one at the rag knows It is a fun gun to shoot.....

I have thought of the .458 LOTT but it is hard to get brass where I am at and the places that do carry it they charge a arm and a leg and your first born to get it......I dont think I would be shooting any 500gr bullets I reay just want to shoot it for fun and for the Big Bore shoots we have at the range

the easiest way to find what you're looking for is to watch the auction sites and the classified forum right here.

Where abouts are you located. Maybe somebody from AR might be in the area and can point you in the right direction.

You can order 458 Lott brass either online or over the phone from several companys such as Huntingtons or Midway. Shop around for the best deal. Hornady brass is very good and not too expensive.

500, Just buy your supplies mail order, most all here do as the local gun shops cannot afford to stock slow/small market items. Same thing own your search for a big bore rifle. Go to the auction sites on the internet, lpots of new and used rifles there. Just find a local dealer who will receive it for you. ($20+,-)

500,
My first big bore was a Ruger No.1 in 416 Rigby which I got for about $525+shipping on gunbroker.com.
I'd suggest checking this and auctionarms.com for decent buys.

My parents live in St.Cloud, and Sheels has nothing in the way of used guns anymore let alone big bores. Gander mtn.'s the same and both are grossly overpriced.
Do a search for 458s on those websites and you should be able to find a good starter big bore.

Search Whitworth on gunbroker. Anything under $800 is probably fair. They were made in 375 and 458.

Hereis one in 375. That may be a more sensible step. This is not my rifle.

Joe, those No 1s are nice rifles. I looked at 2 this weekend. One was 9,3x74 and second was .404 Jeffery. They exude certain amount of class. cigar
