Getting hold of 416 in UK is more difficult than I thought! Many thanks to all who posted advice a few weeks ago.Ruger is apparently out of stock here, Heym ditto and Mauser and others quoting 6 month lead time.Have been offered custom build by GI Wafensmid in RSA at excellent price but: they will use converted P14 action. I thought this was designed for .303/.30/7.62 class and not up to strength needed for bigger rounds. Does anyone have any knowledge of this action - I am aware of general background etc., but ignorant of sporting applications.
Regards
Robert

Oh boy, how do I say this? Not only is the Pattern 14 up to the .416, but is capable of dealing with much bigger cartridges. I have a badly sporterized one that is going to be built into a .585 Nyati when I get around to it (translation: when I can afford to build it)

a 416 in a p14 is like a cosworth a 30kilometers...

yeah, it can do it all day, but it's SO much more fun at 150

416 on a p14, the ONLY issue you need to worry about is feeding

Be patient and wait for the Mauser. It will be worth the wait.

I would - and will, for 2005, but Buff hunt is booked for Oct/Nov this year and I would like the rifle for then.
GI reckon they can provide one in the time allowed, so it looks like the proverbial Hobson's choice!
Tks for advice

If you go to the video links on the main page... O crap here's a link.... P14 or P17 in action click on any of the T-Rex videos. I think the P14 is plenty strong!
One of these days I'm going to the UAE just to shoot Saeeds 577 T-Rex and get my name put up on the "The Wall of Champions". Or will it be my Butt put on "The Floor of Glory"

Thanks for the link. I visited saeed in December and declined the opportunity! had great time with 4 auto pistols, M16 and MP5. To a Brit these things are but a distant memory so it was a memorable occasion. Putting that kind of smile on faces of two jaded teenagers was wonderful. Ask Saeed to meet his playful little pussy cats!
