Thanks for the update. I'll call and get some 700s. I'm going to try to stay with one weight in all loadings on this one. It will be a first!

That is not fair I have not even seen those yet can you post a pic or email me one? Did you get the fax? Did you see the brass? Fred said it got lost somehow. How was the interest in the 550? One of my cases has come up missing, should I put up a reward for it or is it in someones cartridge collection.

News on the brass

Anyway, got word Friday, import permit is in, cases are en route and expect them here soon.
Couple weeks,

Thank you,

Pete Cardona

There was quite a lot of comment on the huge slugs while I was there, such as "What's this monster?" and the like.

I'll try to post a picture later.

Here is a picture of the bullet with one of my cases:

It definitely needs more grooves along the shank, but I really like the profile.

Also, I did get your fax. Thanks very much. It's nice to know that my rifle won't be an NFA "destructive device."

Thanks for the picture. Let me know what the weight is.

Those bullets are from C&H Tool and Die and are his (Dave) design. So that makes another supplier of bullets. He did not set the weight yet as those are some samples.

RNS,

Here are the specs on the bullet:

Diameter: 0.550"
Weight: 700 gr.
Meplat Diameter: 0.416"
Length: 1.500"
Sectional Density: 0.331

As mentioned above, I don't know if the three narrow driving bands will be enough to take the rifling properly. More would seem to be a good idea, but I may very well be wrong. Only shooting will tell.

mrlexma... do you know what designation the ogive is on that projectile? It maybe the photo perspective, but I would like to see more weight forward on it.

RNS, I am realy liking the 550 more and more as I think about its ballistics. Its ashame I am so poor right now with school. With money allocated to other hunts and rifles, I am barely getting my 500 A-2 off the ground.

Not sure about the ogive, but the lighting in the picture makes it appear more tapered than it is in reality.

It has a pretty gradual taper with a broad, flat tip.
