Ruger .416 Rigby QUESTION Login/Join

Gentlemen

A good friend bought a Ruger m77 magnum in cal. .416 Rigby.
The problem is that the Leupold rings does not seem to work properly on this rifle!
First problem is that the QRW 1" rings does not clear the VX-III 1.5-5 scope? The bolt handle can not get pass the scope! I have ordered new rings in hign to solve this problem.
The second problem is that the slots for the rings are not at the same level on the front and the back. The rear slot is lower then the front one. Is this right? The rings are the same there is not a slightly higher ring to compensate for this difference.

Cheers,

André

That sure doesn't sound right-if the receiver ring base and the receiver bridge base are different heights, I would expect the rings to be made to fit each one differently. Have you looked at any Ruger rings to see?

Hello,
I own the rifle you are speaking about and yes, the rear bridge/receiver is lower than the front ring/receiver. Ruger Rings compensate for this height difference in that the base of the rear is higher than the front one. Would strongly suggest you use the original Ruger Rings for the rifle. A stout washer, quarter, coin, etc. carried in the pocket makes the Ruger Rings just as detachable as any others and they are also engineered for the rifle. Just a suggestion and good luck

I have the same rifle and scope. I use the Warne QR rings and have had no problems.

I use the Ruger rings that came with mine. Same scope - no problems.

The Ruger RSM and standard MkIIM77 use the same rings, and the front and rear rings are indeed different heights.

The Ruger No.1 and Mini-14/Ranch rifles use a common set of rings that have both rings of same height.

Your buddy has the wrong set of rings, or is using 2 fronts or 2 rears, through a mixup somewhere along the way ...

What RIP said...You have a set of No 1 rings. I have excellent results with the relatively inexpensive and not altogether attractive Warne QD rings for my RSMs and a 77 SS 338. I just got two sets for my new Hawkeye African and mounted VariX III 1.5x5 and 2.5x8. They are rock solid. If you get the right rings for the 77 receiver, I don't think you will have a problem. The way yours are...both the same height, the scope is tilted down at the back.

Gentlemen

Thank you for helping.
I hope the high rings will come with a front and a rear ring! The low leupold rings does not make it possible to handle the bolt handle fast. I think high rings will make thois possible. Hopefully it will not place the scope to high acordingly to the stock configuration.

Cheers,

André

Andre,

Your Ruger rings should be of differing heights. You should be able to find low, high and extra high. I've only had problems with the objective clearance. If both of your rings are the same, then you have either 2 fronts or 2 rears. Good luck.

caretaker...

Or a set of No 1/Mini 14 rings. Warne sent me the wrong rings several years ago for my RSM. They sent me the No 1 set, mis-packaged.
