I'm looking at trying a new powder in my .375 and it looks like W760 eeks out some good velocities.

How are you fellas experiences with this powder? Is it a flake, ball or stick powder? Does it meter easily in powder dispensers? Performance? Accuracy?

Thanks

years ago when I was search for the best load in the 375 H&H W760 I found to be the best and I tried a lot of powders most gave good accuracy but would not give top velocity but
W760 gave both top velocity and great accuracy plus it meters perfect through a powder measure

i loaded up a batch many yrs ago for same reasons as noted - throws thru a measure very well. no chrono so can't say abt velocity but whatever it was, was plenty (i like safe, reliable, accurate and don't give a flying fig for squeezing every last fps out of a round; is why they make bigger rounds) and it was extremely accurate in an old zkk 602 w/ 300 gr sierra boat tails and one other bullet i forget now which.

I found it to be very accurate in my 375H&H with 300 grain bullets. However, I tried Reloader 15 and got equal accuracy with a bit more velocity. Can't go wrong with either one in a 375H&H.

Off the top of my head, I think I was using 79 grains of W760 (check loading manual, I could be wrong) with the 300 grain bullets. With RL-15, I think I used 70 or 71 grains (again, check the loading manuals).

Good luck.

It's all I use in my 375H&H with 300gr loads, I think I use 78gr. Great accuracy, haven't chronographed it yet though.
Cheers...

I've been using W760 exclusively in my .375H&H rifles for 14 years, with excellent accuracy.

I use WW760 exclusive with 300 grain bullets in a .375. I use 78.0 grains and it averages 2576 fps @ 10' from the muzzle.

CAUTION: old manuals show a lod of 82.0 grains for the 300 gr. bullet. This load is SUPER HOT! I bet I shot over a thousand of these laods when I was a teenager, but that was back in the '80s when this load was considered a good one. I did not have a chronograph, so I have no idea what the bullets were doing, but the pressure is too high. Newer manuals show laods topping out at 78.0 grains.

And I must say, the 78 gr loads recoil noticably less than the 82 gr loads!

I have used it for years, in several .375H&H rifles, top load of 78 grs. with NP-300s. It works and gives 2600+ out of my old Mod. 70s with their 25" bbls.

It's not my first choice -- H 4350 is -- but WW 760 will definitely give very good results with any bullet weight in the 375 H&H.

78 grains of 760 and the 300 grain Hornady round nose is the most accurate load I have seen in the 375, when takes across a lot of rifles. In fact I would say with that load in new brass if a 375 is having accuracy problems you could nearly bet the rifle has a problem. The 300 Sierra is also good but I have not seen that shot in as many rifles as the round nose Hornady.

Reloader 15 usually offers the best velocity of all powders, especially with 270 grains Spitzers. Accuracy is often the best with Re 15 in individual rifles but not as good as 760 when taken across a lot of rifles.

I have been reloading the .375 for about four decades now. I.M.R. 4064 gives me the right balance between velocity, accuracy , load density, and cost.My rifle,( a pre. 64 mod 70 )has been rebareled and 4064 still gives me the best accuracy . I am not saying this is the do all powder, since all rifles are like women. The late ,great Jack Oconnor put me on to this powder and i thank him for that. Hope this helps you out. Charlie

As usual you fellas have pulled through with a wealth of advice and experience to offer. Thanks!

I'll stop and pick up a pound of W760 this afternoon and give it a try. I'm looking for a little over 2500fps (300gr) and that looks easily attainable with this powder.

Charlie,

Thanks, I've been using 4064 in this rifle for awhile and am averaging 1" from it with the Hornady 300gr RN and the Nosler Partition at 2500fps. I'm just curious to play with another powder and see if anything changes. I noticed in the manuals that W760 seems to give good performance at about 99% density. My only criticism of 4064 is that stick powder is more troublesome metering precisely in my RCBS powder measure, whereas powders like RL7 are almost dead-on from load to load.

Thank you lad. I have always wieghed each load and filled the cartridge by hand to reduce the shot to shot velocity deviation. I know this is not as fast as some would like, but on some hunts you spent a terrific amount of money to get there and when the time comes you get one good shot if the gods of hunting smile on you. With the new scales i am sure the ball type powder meters very well and does the same as hand weighing. I have just ordered from a catalouge the new and improved R.C.B.S digital scale and powder dispenser. I figured its time i got with the program. Charlie
