ramrod340Custom Whitworth??
Am I going blind?
http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976661625.htmThis sure looks like basic Whitworth with a lucky piece of wood. Am I missing something?
As usual just my $.02

schromfThe comment about half of the replacement cost is cute.
The action is $350 tops, not anything special in wood, does have nice pieces like the Talleys, barel band and the express sights. I bet it could be built for around 1/2 the asking price.
Think somebody has their trolling lines down looking for suckers.

invader66Is that a Tang saftey?? I need new glasses. That
and fairly nice wood is the only thing different than mine. And fer 4G's I'll keep mine.

ramrod340Looks to me like just a factory Interarms Whitworth. The sights are standard the barrel band standard. The cap looks standard. I have seen factory whitworths and Cavaliers with stocks that nice.
This is a full factory.

jeffeossostill think it's a restock, but it sure might be just a nice factoy.looks like the stock has been touched.. ebony crossbolt covers.. slightly recut nose, slightly different forearm lines..
in any eveny, it's a stock whitworth with (possibly) a couple hundred in rework.. or none...
in either event, it's over priced at 900.. probably okay at 750, and a good buy closer to 500...
at least to me

invader66Jeffe,
I could rust blue mine, use my wood, add a Mod.70 type saftey and look about that good and still be a $700-$800 rifle.

schromfI got looking at that stock, I think its either a semi fancy factory or something like a slightly upscale Boyds or GAG, I don't think its anything fancy at all. looking close I am not sure about the inletting around the safety, and it looks like somebody slapped a coat of varnish on it.
Close up pics would help, I don't trust any high dollar gun adds that don't show several pics with close ups, They are either too cheap to run a decent ad or they are trying to hide something and hussle, either way I am not interested.
Jeffe,
From where I sit in second close looks I think $650 is fair. I am not really interested in a Whitworth though.

ramrod340Well I'm craving a Whitworth and would go higher than $650 but no where near that high.

Jeffe, I don't even think it is restocked! I have two of these, also chambered for 375 H&H, and I see nothing on this one that did not come from Whitworth, except the Talley rings, and mounts! Of course, he may find a dummy that will buy this thing for that price!

Ramrod, I have two, one in it's factory stock, that I use in Africa's dry climate, and one in a synthetic stock, that I use in Alaska's very wet hunting season. Both are set up with Warne QD rings and bases, the wood rifle is mounted with a Luepold 1.5-5X20mm scope, and the wet rifle is topped with a Bushnell 3-9X40 Trophy scope. I also have an origenal FN mauser sporter rifle chambered for 375 H&H, set up the same way with wood, and a Zeiss 4x20mm scope with a German post, and cross wire reticle, a Ruger No1 with a 1.5-5 Luepold. I guess you can tell by this I like 375 H&H rifles, and absolutely love Mausers!

Above Whitworth $465, scope $200, rings $50, checkering $240, grip cap $25, ebony tip $10, Decelerator pad $20, labor mine.
The GunsAmerica rifle cited by Ramrod was worth $750 IMO. It is an early model with sweated-on sights and nicely figured stock which are worth a premium to me.

SOLD!!!!

Nice looking rifle. I really want a 375 but when I go down and feel the current factory offerings they all feel like they have a 4x4 stock on them. The old Whitworth just feels so much better to me.

jstevensI have two Whitworths in .375, paid $610 total for the pair. I have had one of them for 20 years. The other one I just spent more on a drop box magazine than I paid for the rifle!

jstevensI think I'll pass, I kind of like them for a hunting weight .375. One was missing the front sight, so I put NECG sights and a drop box magazine, and am finishing with a new synthetic stock, so I probably will have $1000 or so in it by now. the other one I bought for $235 in 1983.

ramrod340Figured that would be the case. Can't blame a guy for trying. LOL
I'm like you they are hard to beat as to the feel. Everything I have held new feels like a rifle made for the 416 Rigby with just a 375 barrel stuck on it. The stocks feel way to large to be comfortable for me.

bobcI just got my Whitwort back from the gunsmith (same stock specialist who is working on Rusty's 404's). I had earlier had Tip Burns cut off the loud and useless (for me) magnaports, which shortened the barrel to 22 inches. The stock length was a little out of proportion so John cut about an inch off and replaced the factory plastic tip with a nice piece of ebony. He took a bit of the cut off wood and filled the gap left by the factory side safety when Tip installed the Timney and Wisner 2 pos safety. The proportions are now great, and a trim rifle just a bit trimmer. I was lucky enough to get a fine piece of wood on this gun. Bob

bobcRamrod, yep, that was the one at Jeffe's. Since then I've also gotten a new sight hood and a 3/32 front bead that's got the irons dialed in. Bob
