I just picked up the 600 OK from the shop an hour ago. What a jewel of a rifle! It is even nicer and better-finished in person that in the pix he posted a couple weeks ago.

Michael, I'm going to consult the load charts you made in testing CCMDoc's 600, so if I blow myself up, I'll be back to haunt you!!! :-)

I'll get 'em from Doc. He's going to load up my first "ladder". Going to keep it around 2,250 or so, so can use it without the X-Brake, and with open sights. My dedicated Ele stomper!

In lieu of pics I could really go for a closeup video of your expression when you shoot it for the first time.

Shooting it is a piece of cake! No sweat with light loads to 2200 or so. I did all the load data on Docs gun, all the test work, everything from the bench! No sweat at all.

Biebs, I sent the data via email, pdf document. Not a lot really, just enough with WW 760 to do the terminals with the BBW#13s.

Wish I had more to offer, but that will get you up and running.

We shot it together after the DSC a couple of years ago at Monty Kalogeras' Safari Shooting School.

Frank, this is my 2nd 600 OK. They're surprisingly easy to shoot...really! In my experience, pretty much any big bore can be shot quite comfortably if you keep the velocity down to 2,150-2,250 fps. Above that, things turn from a "big push" to getting whacked. I'd rather shoot the 600 at those velocities than a full-house 500 Jeffery, 505 Gibbs, or 460 Wby.

As I've said before, he exceeds expectations regarding his rifles in every way and a genuinely nice person as well.

We need more folk like him.

Biebs-Congrats on the new .600Ok! Shooting the .600Ok with nearly any load below 2300fps is no issue at all. It gets much more entertaining above that level. My top load went 2450 with a 900 gr solid. Most folks are very happy with its performance at 2150fps. I've lost track of how many of these guns are out there now.-Rob

Biebs- BTW you have posted a textbook picture of how a round should fit in an action for smooth feeding! Thats why the .600OK will feed FN's like glass even upside down. Mine even feeds empty's flawlessly.

Nice looking rifle for sure. Article in this month's Sports Afield by Kevin Robertson on the .600OK. He seemed to be favorably impressed with it, although in the end he noted that he would stick with his .505 Gibbs.

I've met Kevin in Zim about 6 years ago and we had a nice chat about Big Bores. I sent him some info on it too. Great Guy and I loved his book. I shoot my .600Ok way more than my .505 Gibbs. Honestly the .600Ok so far out-classes a .505 Gibbs that they are not even in the same league. It was designed that way from the beginning. I find the .600Ok with 2150 fps loads much more controllable than my .505 Gibbs. -Rob

I haven't been able to find Sports Afield on the rack here in Montana, so I haven't been able to read the article. Kevin, Monty, a friend of mine and I had a fun day shooting Monty's new Heym 500 double, the 600 OK and my friends 700 AHR. Kevin tried the 600 un-braked for one shot; that woke him up !! IIRC the rifle was a light one with an 18 or 20" barrel.

Wayne, in the article he said the rifle was "just shy of 13 pounds" loaded with the muzzle break, barrel length was 18".

As Rob mentions above, I also find the 600 OK to be much easier to shoot than a 505 Gibbs when the Gibbs is loaded to specs. I find velocity has a greater effect on recoil than caliber or bullet weight....within reason, of course.

Basically unbraked big bores are not much fun to shoot. I've only fired my .600Oks without a brake once or twice just to see how big a difference there is,then screw the brake right back on. I never understood the logic behind the "no brake for me" mind set. I use every bit of technology available to let me enjoy my shooting of the big bores.

Please try to load and shoot some of the 900 grain brass bullets I sent you. I would really like your opinion of how they perform. Bill is working on a plug for the opening up front.

My ears are precious and I don't wear ear protection when hunting. So I only do rifles without muzzle brakes. I'm building a lightweight 500 AccR, planning to load it to 500Jeff specs (6800 +/- 200 ftlbs., though probably with lighter Raptor CEB bullets), and will consider putting a mercury tube in the stock if it seems too light, but no muzzle brake.

416Tanzan- There are muzzle brake designs that don't make a gun louder, in fact there are some that actually have been metered and decrease the sound just a little( <1db) while providing 40% recoil reduction. A fact thats not overly discussed for obvious reasons. Just a little tidbit to store away incase you need it.
A muzzle brake is far more effective as a recoil reducer than any mercury tube in the stock and frankly as you know any firearms report over 145db or so ( and your 500 acrel will do that) will damage your hearing anyway. Might as well not be knocked silly at the same time. if you want to save your hearing, wear fast acting muffies or use a suppressor.-Rob

Actually, I wound up spreading a bit of holiday cheer. Bob Grow emailed me shortly after I received it, and mentioned that he saw it, went to check his finances, and came back to buy it, only to find it sold. I figured I wasn't attached to it yet, and so am in the process of passing it on to him for the same price. I have a few rifles I haven't played with yet, and I can always get another.
