Barnes 300gr. This thing should go pretty fast. Sand Creek November 29 1864

Great bullet for a max of about 2000 fps. Much over that and it overexpands and breaks up.

Huh, thanks for the heads-up. I was thinking of running it hot. I better look at a different bullet. Sand Creek November 29 1864

Try the 300 grain Barnes TSX, that should work better than a cup and core bullet. Frank "I don't know what there is about buffalo that frightens me so.....He looks like he hates you personally. https://cuttingedgebullets.com...DGBR-HP_S13LG_BBW_13 Try this one from CEB They also make a 250 gr that Michael has run at 2850fps IIRC out of 18 in barrel 458 B&M

Regarding the Barnes, I spoke with one of their techs about the .458 TTSX and he said if I ran it at any velocities over the intended .458 SOCOM velocity I would surely shear the petals off. Wonder how that would go with the regular 300 grain TSX... Interesting to find out! Regarding the 250 and 295 grain CEB's, I have a bunch loaded up with different powders in my .458 Lott for some load development. Should make for a lethal big bore laser! I'll let you all know how this little experiment in physics goes! -John

Please let me know how this goes. I'm looking at getting some more range out of my .458 win mag.

I just got a new keg of H-4198, and running 77/H-4198 now gives me 2900 and change with the 250 #13 NonCon with tip added. At these velocities this bullet penetrates to 18 inches in my test medium, and that is extreme performance. When you consider 500 gr Nosler Partitions, and 500 gr Woodleigh Softs penetrate to only 19-20 inches in the same medium at 2275 fps 458 Lott Velocities....... I can promise you this, there is NO CONVENTIONAL 458 bullet 300-325 gr ever made, or devised, that can reach this terminal performance. The only conventional premiums up to 400 grs that equal this performance are the 350 and 400 gr North Fork Premiums. Other 350-400s are from 13-16 inches total penetration. I will be taking this 250 gr NonCon to Africa in July, first tests will be on zebra/wildebeast and anything else I can get to stand still long enough to bust open!
