Capstick,
the BEST price i've seen, after shipping, is 550 or so, for the aciton...

the rifle, on gunbroker, is 620ish...

and you have a beater stock, a take off barrel, perhaps a front sight, and a rear sight insert..

Most storefront dealers charge full retail on a special order and I can't blame them. It just helps to have a friend who'll work with you.

Harry,
I get annoyed at "full price for special orders" as the guys sup total investment is the price of whatever time it took to order... no inventory aging, no FIFO/LIFO, HIhoHIhoHIho... they pick up the phone, make a call, and then should charge a reasonable amount.

In fact, I think this is a "trick" to offset their agin inventories/opprotunity costs.... If they bought 5 remingtons in 30-06 60 days ago, and have 2 left, and a fella walks in, plunks his money down, and wants ABC123, and you just gotta make one call.

In fact, accountingwise, it makes LESS sense to charge less than retail for standing inventory... As you have an aging inventory cost, and are not turning your inventory rapidly...

Days in inventory on a special order are generally ONE or less on a special order, especcially one prepaid...

Now, the poor bugger that will take a special order over the phone, without at least a nonrefundable deposit, he's gunna get screwed!!

I think that American Hunting Rifles in Montana is the importer for the actions, so you could probably order one direct from them. I think their website is wwww.hunting-rifles.com

I was really talking about Carter's type places. They don't get any better discount than the guy out of his house on 1 or 5 a year of an off-brand but still carry workman's comp, general liability ins., property tax or lease expense, major light bill, advertising, yada yada yada. A $500 or $600 special order at full retail is less profitable for them than a $500 or $600 sale on an inventoried brand they sell in high volume. There are dealer incentives by the majors just like car dealers. Why do you think they carry so few brands?

BC billy is biased.... ???

You are right, on a totally one off thing.. but there prices on remingtons are NOT generally better than wally world or target.... given if both of them have them..

speaking of wally world, thier special order, while it might take awhile, is exactly the same price as if it was a stocked item... cost +% required out of benton.

the distributors carters worth with carry all the stuff that your regular joe blow can get... and then some...

I've tried to place a special order with them, for a cz action about 6 years ago... and I am good friends with the bunch in pasadena... While their distrubtor carried it, billy would not allow the special order... I have NO CLUE why, and neither did the salesman

If i call up my buddy-the-gunsmith, and ask him if he can order me something, he calls me back with the price. Since he knows I'll pay it, he'll order it before I take an hours' drive to give him the money. It's cost + a %...

I reckon that's why i do a good deal of trade with him... other than I can go to his house and learn quite a bit from him every time I'm there..

Call AHR or Brownells for a CZ550 in .375 H&H. By the way taking a barrel off a factory gun is really difficult. They epoxy the threads! It takes lot's of heat and a good strap wrench with an extension. Damn near killed me once!-Rob-Rob
