My brother got his reamer finally. He finished it up and fireformed some 375s through it...? I don't know if that's the recomended procedure there or not but he has brass now. Question is he has some 500gr Barnes XLCs and the only manual I have that has loads for the thing is A-Square and thats a 500gr Mono-solid. The load of 91gr RL15, he said there's no way it will fit with that load at all. He said he loaded up some IMR4064 at 70 some grains and it was pretty full, could have got a grain more in it maybe. He loaded up some 400gr Hawk bullets too but, not sure what load though. Never crono'd them, was after dark when he got them loaded so no idea what the speed was. He couldn't wait till daylight to set up the 35P.

Anyone have any more load data, or best place to get basic brass?

Thanks guys.

Call A-Square to ask about brass. I know they had some on hand a couple months ago and were preparing to make more.

Last post...period!

Brent, Hornady sells a top quality basic 375 H&H magnum case. Go to www.horandy.com. I would recommend you get this basic case, trim to length, and run it through full length sizing dies. Forget the fire forming. The last time I spoke to Hornady they had the brass in stock and ready to ship.

You can also get the Hornady basic magnum brass from Lock Stock and Barrel. I think their website is www.lockstock.com. Do a search for "lock stock and barrel" and it should pop right up.

Don't call A-Square about brass. Their brass is very soft. I have $120 of it kicking around that I can't use because it is crappy.

Instead, you can get properly headstamped 470 capstick brass from Huntingtons for $21 for a bag of 20 cases. Click here:

http://www.huntingtons.com/CasesBell.html

I have been happy with 84 to 86 grains of IMR4064 and a 500 grain Woodleigh, Hawk or GS Custom bullet. But that load might be too hot for your gun so start lower and work up.

Good luck!

Brent,
Email me, and I'll give you some quickload data on the "475 ackley" which is 112 grains of water.. Should be CLOSE, and i'll give you lower calculated pressure.

the 91 grains is listed as 108% over charge, and 70k psi. DO NOT USE THAT.

Brent,

Regarding A^2 manual. The sad thing about this manual is the A^2 triad line of bullets seem to be shorter than most other bullets for the same wt/caliber, especially the mono-solids. Therefore, the bullets are seated further out, increasing usable capacity and lowering the pressure. It has been hard to find published data on the A^2 bullet lengths, i have found only a few.

For instance, the .475 500g A^2 mono lists as 1.19" while the barnes XLC is 1.59". This is reason for quickloads high pressure when using the XLC.

Jeffe, for a case wt. of 255gr., Accuload estimates the 470 capstick case capacity as 114gr.

A-Square was using TCCI solids, as I understand it, and you can still buy TCCI solids from Thunderbird Cartridge Company in Arizona. Their phone is (602)237-3823. I have used the TCCI solids and I am happy with them.

Thanks guys. [Smile]
I would have thought the mono-solids to be long but no idea where the cannelure on it is.
No way 91gr will work in this.
I'll pass the info along.
Thanks again. [Smile]

One other point, I use an 8" drop funnel to fit the powder in.
