I have received my 375H&H a week ago with a new Armtec stock.

I could not wait to get to the range on Saturday morning.

I have 2 loads that I wanted to test.

1St load is a 300gr Frontier bullet and the 2nd is the 250gr Barnes TTSX

The idea with the 300gr Frontier Game Rangers is to shoot them with the iron sights as pracise bullet as they are not very expensive and would give me good practise.

With iron sights from the bench I got a consistant 3 shot 1 inch group at 50 meters.

The 300gr were running down range at 2360fps. Think I need to push the load up to 2450fps??

Do you guys agree?

3 inches high would have to look at a higher front sight.

The range I shot on only went out to 80 meters.

The 1.5-5x20 VX3 went onto the 375 with the QD mounts.

The 250gr Barnes TTSX gave met the following 4 shot grouping

They ran down range at 2600fps.

Here I am very happy with the accuracy but would like to push the 250gr at around 2750fps...

A 250gr TTSX at 2750fps is more than enough horsepower for everything I can afford to hunt in Africa at the moment.

I am very impressed with the Armtec stock as well as the potential this rifle is showing in terms of accuracy...

Gerhard:
If your rifle shoots that well I'd leave it as is. No critter on God's green earth will notice another 90 fps. If you feel the need for speed, you can always get a .378 Weatherby, but what you have will take anything that walks.
Good luck,
Cal

If your 300gr bullets are meant for practice then go with what you have. More velocity more recoil practice is where you perfect your technique not acquire a flinching habit I always end my big bore shooting sessions with my .22 to re-establish technique and muscle memory for the next time...
have fun

+1
Bullet placement over velocity, any day!

Besides, at those speeds one should see a lot of bullet integrity.

The reason why I want to push the 250gr TTSX to 2700fps is to use the rifle and calibre out to 200m on plains game.

The 300gr is just about spot on but would play a bit and see what the rifles does with loads at 2450fps.

With a quality 300gr bullet it should be a great all rounder load for bushveld hunting.

I will keep you guys posted on the range results as well as hopefully some field testing later...

Gerhard,

Try 75 grains (work up to from about 70 grains) of S-365 (roughly IMR 4350 equivalent and exactly the same thing as AA 4350 until recently) behind a 300-grain bullet of your choice (I use A-Frames and Woodleigh PP's for hunting and Hornady RN's for paper punching; 74 grains with Woodleigh solids but will likely think up a new recipe to go with Dzombo flat-nose monolithic solids in the near future) with CCI 250's in Rem or Win cases. DO NOT TRY IN SHITE PMP CASES!

With that load, I get close to 2 600 fps with no pressure problems whatsoever. Couple of buff, hippo and a bunch of other stuff in the salt, no problems.

I know it's not in the Somchem manual (goodness knows why not; it's not in any of the SA-published books by any of the "experts" either) but it works like a charm. I've used that recipe in a bunch of .375's and they all work as advertised. Good accuracy, acceptable recoil, pressure well within limits. I don't feel or see the need to shoot anything else in my .375.

Enjoy!

Gerhard,

Ive shot alot of large animals and some small/medium sized ones w 375 and 375 improved. The higher velocity deffinately makes a difference (for the better) as long as you are using a premium bullet.

I'd keep going toward higher velocity personally.

Id try for 2,600 with the 300 grain and 2,900 with the 250.

Good hunting!

Andy

My M70 loves 300gr A-Frames being pushed by 78gr of IMR4350. Generally puts 3 or more shots into one ragged hole at 100 yards.

That is an above max load, so the usual caution to work up to this as always.

Andy is correct in his advice! - the .375 H&H is capable of 2700 fps with 300 gr bullets and 3000 fps with the 250 TTSX. Both would be safe and very lethal. Why under load the gun? Many under load the .375 H&H, and that's why it has a reputation of being just "adequate" when it's more than "adequate" for Africa, when loaded to it's potential. AIU

Thank you for the info guys.

I will post results of the load developments here.

Looks like I might have only scratched the surface of the 375H&H's potential.
