I bought 4 boxes of 270 grain soft point Remington High Velocity.
My intent is to use them as practice ammo for my upcoming plains game hunt.
If I don't use them all, does anyone have experience with them on Kudu/Gemsbuck size game?
Or should I stick with premium bullets?

I know of guys and girls that have dumped some good size brown bear with them. . I always liked them. Unless there is something different about the High Velocity ammo. Iirc all mine were Express.

A friend wanted to quit and go home after a blue wildebeest wasn't impressed with that load.

It's too far, too much plane fare, etc. to not investigate a better bullet, but if it's all I had it would get used.

I have been hunting plainsgame for years with a .375 with all sorts of ammo including the 270 gr. Remington and Winchester ammo..Personally I don't believe there is such a thing as bullet failure on PG with 270 grs of bullet from a 375 H&H, only poor shooting and blaming the bullet. On Buffalo, elephant, hippo etc. bullet failure pops up now and then in most calibers or used to anyway..Its been a long time since I have experienced bullet failure with todays bullets.

My guess is it will Kill them Dead.

Agree....I have shot quite a bit of blue wildebeest, oryx and Zebra with the .375 remingtons....they work quite well..

Best bullets in .375 thus far on PG have been 260 gr. Nosler Accubond and 235 Barnes X.

Back in 1983, the 270 gr. 375 H&H was the standard for sure kill on brown bears. Hunters were still taking many with assorted 30 cals. and 338s.

I was told to use the 270 gr. rd. nose Rem. and only that. Ignorance is bliss, especially when premium bullets were considered exotic and not for the average hunter. That bullet worked well for me when I whacked a 10'3" brownie. Took all of fours shots to put him down. One frontal under the chin, next one in the right shoulder, next one behind the shoulder, and the last killing shot was one in his foot at 20 ft. when he got up to take a swipe at me. Skull measures 29 3/4".

On our family trip in 2011, my three son's shared a 7x57 (160 Accubond), 358 Win (200 gr TTSX) and and 8x57 (180 gr BT) and had zero issues whacking kudu, gemsbuck and wildebeest. So, no, not a worry in my book.

I used the exact ammo on eland and kudu and springbok. Works fine.

I picked up a good quantity of them cheaply. They are accurate in my M70. I've shot no game with them, but they easily shoot through 2 feet of well aged hemlock. I suspect they would work fine for your purpose.

In my experience, if you shoot well enough to notice this ammo doesn't perform as well as some more premium ammo, you probably won't miss with this ammo.

This is my first bit of advice on this forum, take it with a block of salt.

Me too. I picked up 8 boxes of 300 grain A Frames. Certainly couldn't reload them for what I paid. I plan to use them for PG.

I got some of the 300 gr. A Frames as well.
I'll be using them primarily.
My guess is if the Remington 270 SP loads hold together on big
South Texas hogs, they'll work fine on Kudu.

Those 270 gr Remington SPs are nothing special on paper but they work very well. I think you'll find a huge wound channel and very dead animals on your hunt. A couple of my friends used them exclusively when I lived in AK and killed everything with them. I personally did not hunt with them but they were exceedingly accurate in a 375 Remington I had at the time.

I have used this ammo successfully on moose and caribou and wouldn't hesitate to use on bears. I have found it to be very accurate in my rifles.

Not the ammo in question, but I have used that same weight Woodleigh PPSN (my own loads) on kudu and gemsbok, and it produced emphatic, stunning results. My hunt report from Kanana last year is somewhere here.
