Glad to see some .411 guys here! Has any body shot any game with the Hornady 300 grain, .411 diameter 405 bullets? Either the Flat points or the Spire Point? I have been shooting 300 Grain Hawks. .035 Jacket at 2100 fps. with good results. Four broadside shoots on deer, double lung. 60-70 yd. recovery. Exit hole, 1 1/4", no major destruction. One quartering away down shot, in the RH ribs, out just in front of the opposite leg. Dropped dead! Using Hornady 300 SP... I made a 70-80 yd. broadside shot, just taking off the top of the heart. He got back up and made a 30yd. hook. Never really got all four feet back under him or his head up. Just sort of a sideways run. Nasty looking two inch hole on the far side. More tissue damage than the Hawk's. Second deer, just a little farther, but quartering toward me. Bullet entered half way down the neck, clipped the top of the spine. Part of the bone or bullet angled into the lung cavity hitting the top of the far [right] lung. A small piece of the jacket was found just after the spine. The bullet exited just behind the opposite front leg, just above the mid way point, small hole. Looked like no expansion. Deer dropped at the shot! I get good groups out of the SPs, but the FNs don't want to shoot [4"] What type of results are you folks getting? I will have to try some different loads. Only tried IMR 4198. My best load is 44 grains of IMR 4198 with a 300 SP at 2100 fps. out of my pistol, a bolt action with a 14" barrel. The cartridge is a 240 Weatherby case opened to .411 and cut to 2.170. Back to the facts..........Anybody shot anything with either of these bullets? Thanks, BS

I quite using them, back then there were only flat points. Never shot any game with them, as they failed in 4" diameter cedar logs at 2200+ fps. Not my idea of a good bullet. I have been using Woodleighs. They work WAY better. ASS_CLOWN

I am currently workin with the 300 SP for deer. My load (reduced) will be a lil short of 2100 fps, i am also using a pistol. If all goes well, i will have some field performance in a lil over a week!

Were you shooting cross ways or lenght ways thru the cedar log? Had to ask ASS_CLOWN! A 4" cedar, that is just brush back in the Swamp! Deer are always hiding in brush, and I want to be able to shoot thru it! The the exit hole and damage on the broadside shot deer, was more than I was getting from the Hawk bullets! Quite a nasty looking hole. I took pictures, but not sure if I should post them! I will e-mail them to those interested. BS

MoreBS, I like your handle, by the way. The cedar logs were in the 4" to 5" diameter range, shot at ~ 40 yards cross wise. Two loads were used, both with IMR4895, one clocking ~ 2210 fps and the other ~ 2300 fps. Had bullets going in, and shrapnel coming out, with both loads! I wasn't impressed. The bullets were the Hornady, 300gr FP (there was not such thing as a spire point, this was a couple years ago). The cedar was of the eastern variety if it matters. I have been using Woodleigh ever since. Very nice bullet, but perhaps a tad tough for a mere whitetail (if you want optimum expansion that is). ASS_CLOWN
