I've been drooling over the McMillan Prestige rifle but was thinking that the $6,300 price tag was a little steep plus they don't make it in 416 Rigby. So I was thinking that it might be cheaper to buy the McMillan G30 CRF action and then add a barrel and stock to it. I love the barrel that McMillan uses for the Prestige with the integrated quarter rib and express sights. Does anybody have a clue who they order this barrel from? All they say on their website is that their barrels are from the finest barrel makers in the country.

"finest barrel makers in the country"! That usually means, the ones that come in at low bid.

I would have to agree with 465H@H on this one if they are not saying who made the barrel they are buying them from more then one maker.

Couldn't hurt to call and ask them. Probably do use different barrel makers, who ever has the best price, or whoever has what they need available. Good chance it depends on the particular rifle specs and caliber

Thanks for your help. Does anyone know which custom barrel makers can make a barrel with a good integrated quarter rib express sight?

Most quarter ribs are fitted after the bbl is installed on the receiver. Usually to get a quarter rib you will ask for a barreled receiver.

Thanks John for the info about the barreled action...that makes sense. Sorry if this comes across as ignorant lol but if I already have the action that I want, would it be better to send the action to McMillan and have them install the barrel and the quarter rib, or could my action be sent to a barrel maker and have them install the quarter rib? Any feedback as far as what companies make/install good integrated quarter ribs on a barreled action?

I believe Lothar Walther offers barrels with integral quarter ribs.

If you do a search on the ACGG website, there is a listing of metalworkers who do this sort of thing. It is a spendy operation but the quality will astound you.

You can buy the barrel blank and have any number of people machine the rib, barrel band swivel and front banded sight (or some combination thereof). I hate to seak for otheres but there are folks who post here and elsewhere that will machine the barrel blankof your choice to whatever configuration you wish. I think if you call McMillan and spec a barrel maker, for $6300 they would accomodate you as well. If anything, all they should want is the delta if your barrel is higher than what the cost of what they normally supply.
