375 H&H Bullet Selection ??? Login/Join

Thinking strongly of building a 375 H&H to use on white tails simply because I have a spare action and it would be an awful lot of fun.

What bullets would be you choices for this application?

My "American load" is the 260 grain partition with a full charge of IMR4350

I would think that most any would work. My favorite whitetail bullet in any caliber is a Hornandy interlock. Of course the Nosler Partition is the grandaddy of them all!

Since I shoot a 338 Win.Mag with the 225 pill I choose the minimum of 300 grainers for the 375 H&H. I like to make a minimum of 100 grains difference b/t the calibers, although not always doable within my collection. Sometimes I'm settling with 80 grains difference+/-. With the 338 and the 375 it's very easy to take the latter to the next higher level.

I also would opt for the Woodleigh 300 gr. softs, they work on anything and don't tear them up so bad...

There is no such thing as 300 grs. of .375 H&H bullet failure on whitetail.

Have been using my .375H&H on second license elk and mule deer here in Colorado. The bullet used is some 215gr Barnes X bullets. Never had to shoot anything twice. rotflmo

I have used a 300 grain Sierra on whitetail. Pick your poison as there are a bunch of bullets to choose from.

.....Haveing shot alot of Sitka Blacktails with the 375 H&H .I agree with both Ray and Gerard /prof ...Fjold has probly the pefact all around North American load ...You really need to find your own path on this one.I myself will use the 270 3X or GS HV .......I used to use solids alot for shooting deer in the 375 and found that if I hit bone the devistation was about the same as a 270 or 06 in the same spot .. But I could shoot them thru a tree !!

.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

Hornady .375" 225 grain spire point.
Cheap, can be driven 3000 fps if you want and works great on deer, black bear and hogs. I drive it 2850 fps and it shoots a trajectory similar to a 308 with 150 grain bullets.

Not to oversimplify, but I think ANY bullet fired out of an H&H will take down a whitetail. BOOM You could stick to plain old cup and core bullets for that task, and the Hornady interlocks or Sierra Gamekings seem hard to beat in that category.

I'll post how they do after deer season -- but I'm pretty sure the 270 gr. 375 Rs will work just fine on them.

225/270 grain Hornadys, 250 Sierra Gameking. Work fine and accurate with proper loads. More than adequate up to elk and likely further on than that. But I haven't shot anything bigger than the wapiti's with them.

Well, you do not need a full power 375 H&H for whitetaqil deer.
I have killed a few with mine however.

I have used the 220gr Hornady FP over 60 gr of IMR 3031, and the 235 Speer over 60 and 64 gr of IMR 3031 with excellent results.

I have also killed a pig with Remington factory 270 RN, and 2 turkeys with Federal factory 300gr Nosler Partitions, just because i had the factory ammo on hand.

But for deer the Hornady and Speer bullets at @ 2300 to 2500 are just about perfect.

I found a sale on Federal 270 grain Classics for my .375 and always thought those would work fine on a deer (killed my brothers Moose no problem) as I shoot those up I've been working up a 300 grain Barnes Triple Shock with the empties and may get some Sierra 300's to try too.
I can't imagine a bullet in the .375 that wouldn't work splendidly.

I use 155 gn copper banded solids @ 3300ft/s.
Needless to say very flat trajectory and has been known to kill the odd buff as well.

Marks bullets are the German copies. The original South African bullets do not have the plastic tips.

The 250gr bullets are the Fastness in my 375 H&H

But any bullet for the 375 H&H could kill a deer.

A 300gr Partition or TSX or better yet a 350gr Woodleigh should take down most whitetails. They also work for Brown bear and Cape Buffs!

MarkH-

That sure looks like an intriguing combination for smaller game.

Those are great looking bullets. Is there a source for those on this side of the "pond"?

I use this Hornady 225grn also. I load mine to 2700+ fps w/ H-4895. Very accurate w/ low recoil and a nice trajectory. Great deer, pig, & practice load. I also like these a little better than the Speer 235grn because it has a canulure. I like to trim after every sizing and crimp w/ a Lee factory crimp die. It seems to be slightly more consistent

Lutz I think is in the process of sorting a agent out. You could PM him and find out specifics or try

How can they be copies if they are completely different in specification. I agree they are copper and have drive bands but thats about it.

PS I have no commercial interest in these bullets just another hunter who likes fiddling with ballistics Smiler

I used Hornaday 270 and 300gr RN back when I shot this caliber and it worked nicely on deer and Scandinavian elk. You defintely get your moneys worth with these.

I've used the 235gr Speers with good success on blacktails. Of course the blacktails around here generally range from 100-125 lbs, so you may be undergunned depending on how big the deer are in your area Big Grin
