Gents:

One of our African friends, Katte, is going to come to the DRSS hunt weekend in June to do some hunting. However, this time he would like to bring his own firearm with him. I believe he is a resident of South Africa.

What is needed upon his arrival at Customs to bring his hunting rifle?

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

BATF form 6 and an invitation to a shoot, or a hunting licence.

Google to find the application form.

Get Katte to apply WAY in advance....these things are very slow.

Good luck,
Canuck

THe Form 6 mentioned is so he can legally import it into the country. you now have to go through the process as if you were buying a gun from overseas. It is very expensive and time consuming. If he has not already started the process, then there is a very high probablility the paperwork will not be complete in 2 months.

If he is determined to bring a rifle over, he literally needs to be on the phone first thing in the morning EST and see what can be done.

I'm not an expert on this, but isn't it the ATF Form 6NIA? The NIA meaning Non-Immigrant Alien? This is for a temporary importation as I understand the rules.

it could very well be-it has been at least 2 years since I tried to help a guy bring a rifle in the US for 1 month hunting trip. He started 3 months ahead of time - and still did not have enough time to get all of the paper work done. Wound up borrowing one of my rifles

If he starts the process now, he will be set for next year!

Paul, he can borrow one of my doubles, or I have two 375 H&H bolt rifles he can use, a couple of 7mm mags, if he wants a scoped bolt rifle.
