Hei Overkill !You should try to get Horneber brass from germany.I don't have his adress and i doubt if he will take your "request" seriously after much observations, but there are others here who can send you the adress,if you're serious about the .577 project !? Instead of using time on the .577 tyrannosaurus and what that behemoth is able to, you should focus on the much "easier" .585 3 inch nyati, which can and will dish out more power than you'll ever ask for !! Besides, your gunsmith will be more open for the .585 3 inch, than making an action for the .577 tyr, that will cost you a looot !

Overkill, i'm not sure of the watercapacity of the 3 inch nyati case, but i guess around 200.The ordinary case holds 184,185 grains. I think Karl is the right person to ask.Anyway he said he could push the woodleigh soft or solid(I'm not sure)to 2620 fps, maybe higher with horneber brass, but this load will knock you into oblivion !!!! These 3 inch cases are not available. You have to order ordinary .585 nyati cases, and use some sort of equipment to stretch the cases out to 3.0 or more if safe, but again you should hear with Karl or someone more experienced dude than me.
To get 3" .585 Nyatti cases you just purchase Bertram unfromed .585 cases which are 3.25" long you run them through the custom trim & file die you will have built and then trim them off at 3".
I and my mate are both building .585 Nyatti's and we considered going down this path, but Karl had problems getting it to all work and stated he wished he had just built the 2.82" version. This is the version we have settled on and as the original inventor Ross Seyfried stated it has more than enough power. The advantage of the 2.82" version is that it requires less modification to get it to work which equates to less dollars. One can still get 2550 fps with a 750 gr bullet and the right powder. The reccomended impact velocity of the big woodelighs for optimum performance is around 2000 fps if I remember rightly.
I doubt if one would be disadvantaged by building the 2.82" version.

Speaking of goofed up projects, I read an article about a guy who had a 505 gibbs made, and it shot like crap. Turns out the gunsmith used a second hand 50 BMG barrel for it!!!

The 3 inch version of this case is a waste of time and effort. Not only will it require custom dies( as if std NYATI dies were falling off trees),but you will compound the thin neck- brass problem. No you can't just neck size this brass and have it fit this chamber more than once or twice. Finally, I'd really like to meet the person who could extract the additional 50fps out of the NYATI (maybe) that the additional .180 inches would provide. If you really want more power than this then the only practical answer is a 600 or 700 based on the .50BMG case. With a good clamshell muzzel brake you can really become King of the Hill.-Rob

Karl's 3 inch Nyati is alive and well. He is in the military and has not found the time to do load developement. With the proper powders the 3 inch Nyati will develope a good deal more than just 50 FPS over what can be achieved in the 2.8 version, the t.rex will develope even more than the 3 inch Nyati.
It's interesting to see two guys who have a lot of knowledge about big bores, not to be able to compromise he,he. i 'm in doubt, and that is what this reply is all about. On one side Rob states that the neck will be too thin and only be able to get 50 fps(not the most importante facto) etc, etc. And Mitch says that the 3.0 inch is up and working and will be able to get a lot more than 50 fps gain over the 2.8. please decide. Is the 3.0 Nyati good or bad, or would any of you hesitate getting one.
Rob. Could you tell me about the .600 proprietary on the .50 BMG case, and how to get it. Mitch. Could you tell me what you'd do, getting a brand new .577 ? Hope you guys will dispatch my doubts.
