I just finished building a .416 Taylor for a PH in Namibia. I will be taking it there in April. I would like load data for US powders as well as powders available in Namibia if some one has that info. I have loaded up 300 gr., 350 gr., and 400 gr. using Varget but I'm sure there is a better powder. Any help will be greatly appreciated......Tom SCI lifer NRA Patron DRSS DSC

I've had good luck with Rl15. I use 72 grains for the 350 and 70 for the 400. These have been the most accurate in my rifle. They do not seem to care what case I use. I've only used the Speer 350, but have switched out a number of 400's (have not used Barnes or Swifts) and saw no pressure problems. Primers are still tight after six reloads, and counting. There are faster loads and certainly better bullets that what I've used. Bfly Work hard and be nice, you never have enough time or friends.

Hey Tom, The reloading pages on this site has Taylor info. Also the 416 Taylor page.com has info. Waters used Imr 4320 w/ good success. Most current info seems to favor RL 15. Also do a "416 Taylor" search in the forums. I picked up some info that way.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the pages here, not a lot of info but it gave me a starting place. I just came back from the range and it's a sub-MOA gun with both 300 and 350 gr. bullets over Varget. I was pleased now I will try R-15. I still need to find out what they can buy in Namibia. Thanks again, both of you...Tom SCI lifer NRA Patron DRSS DSC

Tapper, he means these pages . Click the link in my last sentence & it will take you direct to the 416 Taylor page. In the future, have a look in top left corner of the page your reading this on. Right above George the moderators name is Accuratereloading.com, click it, browse around & you will see the "reloading pages". Here is another link, click it & it takes you to a whole pile of load info for the Taylor Hope this helps. Search online for 416 Taylor...there is about 1.5 Million hits. There once was very good page/forum with good information on powders and bullets/weights including RL-15...but I can't find it now and I lost the URL. My Taylor like RL-15, 4230 and BLC-2 with 350-400 gr bullets.

My Taylor likes Rel 7 for both the 350gr Speer Magtip and 340gr Woodleigh.

I don't think you understand. I have already done what you suggest. Like I said not a lot of info. It was definitly enough to get me started. What I really need is, what powders are available in Namibia. I have been to Rosenthal's in Windhoek a couple of times but don't remember what they carry. I believe all the powders in Namibia come out of S.A. I am trying to find out what we have that is equivelant. I have several loads that work well here. I love my Taylor and shoot it often. Thanks to all.....Tom SCI lifer NRA Patron DRSS DSC

In my 416 Taylor I found that IMR4064 gives me better vel with less powder then RL15 with all bullet weights. So I use IMR4064.

Tap: Several years ago I contacted GS Custom Bullets and requested an equivalent burn rate for SA powders vs US powders. They were kind enough to forward an extensive list in this regard. (http://gsgroup.co.za/burnrates.html) For IMR 4064, and Rel 15= N203 For IMR 4320, and Varget=N203B double base extruded Perhaps this info will be of assistance. Ciao

Thank you, that is the info I was looking for as well as some loads. I like IMR4064 in my .458 so I will try some in the Taylor....Tom SCI lifer NRA Patron DRSS DSC
