To the harcore ultraborists, regards these factory 505gibbs, would the members say the factory stock might have the strength to stay as is on a budget 585 conversion?

Yes it will if you steel bed the action front and rear recoil lugs and have cross bolts. M ay not live forever but as a interim stock no problem.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

Great! Should work fine on my 9.5 pound .408 Chey-Tac CZ 550 Magnum. Karl, Really, the only problem would occur if there is bad grain flow in the grip area. In addition to what Rob has said, add an allthread steel rod through the long axis of the pistol grip of the stock, and you will have no worries. The stock on the bottom below is a .505 Gibbs that held up. The stock on the top is a 404 Jeffery that broke, due to poor grain flow in the grip:

CZ 505 up close pictures I've looked at with crossbolts and good bedding, looks strong, and with an extra lug on a585 barrel, it should hold one like 585HE which can feed from same mag as 505. My 585HE Savage 110 with a 40 dollar plastic stock holds 12,000 ft lb loads fine, no cracks or shucking, so a quality big bore straight grain CZ stock should hold.Ed MZEE WA SIKU

Maybe a .408 Berry Gibbs? Full length .505 Gibbs shooting .408 VLD bullets single-shot loaded on a CZ 550 Magnum, and .411-caliber/300-grain TSX 400 Whelen bullets sized down to .408 for general purpose big game. 505/408 BG 400 BG

I love HUBEL'S 585 HE and I hope it's your choice just because!!! D/R Hunter Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

I laid down and the 400 Bee Gee idea went away. Will just stick with the standard .408 Chey-Tac. Expect a thread about a 9-pound sporting .408 Chey-Tac one of these days ...

Ron you also might look at the 416 snipetac or 458 Allen Mag, both necked up and improved versions of the 408 cheytac. Actually I wish I hadn't mentioned either myself as now its time for a nap again

Karl, I looked for pics and this was all I found, a .416 Staghound AKA .416 Snipe-Tac, snagged from hunt101.com: I think I would prefer a simple neck-up of the .408 Chey-Tac to .416 ... Use .408 Chey-Tac dies and a set of .416 Barrett Dies to load ammo until custom dies were available:
