Barnes bullet question?
Guys, I have a question about Barnes TSX bullets. If you are using Barnes TSX bullets in your big bore, do you see any need for to also have solids in the magazine for any follow up shots? Wouldn't the TSX bullets penetrate just aa well or maybe better than a traditional solid? Have the TSX bullets made the more traditional solid obsolete?

My answers would be "No" and "No".

A TSX should penetrate quite a bit better than a traditional soft, but I don't think it would match a solid on average.

For things like buffalo a TSX/regular X/MRX should really be all you need, but I don't think any expanding bullet would replace a solid on brain shots for elephant...but I defer to the experienced guys on this.

I read it as a buffalo question, bad on me for assuming.

Just for fun, Stuntpilot2's report on Elephant with Barnes X. I know it is not a TSX, but interesting anyway.

NB -- with my limited experience I would not try for ele with less than true solids if I had any choice in the matter.

As a client, there is no need for you to carry solids on a buff hunt with the right softs/hollow points. As a PH, there are times when there is no substitute for a good solid Wink
