Kwan, I just built a 416 Taylor and have an OLD/1st run Leu 1.75 x 6 that I was going to mount on it. The scope's too short to fit the ring spacing so I mounted a Leu 2.5 x 8. Works fine, but I think the scope looks too big on this rifle. Unless your Leu is the compact model, I'll bet it looks too big also. Will it work, sure.

I broken a few VariXII 3X9's so it may not last for long. Leupold will fix them though. You dont need a 9X scope on a Rigby. Get a 2.5X comact or a 1.5X5 VariXIII.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

Hi Kwan, I too put a Leupold Vari XIII 2.5-8x on my .416 Weatherby and used it a lot. Took an elk way out there with it (recovered Swift A-frame is my avatar). Still have that scope and works just fine, albeit on my 8mm Rem Mag. I'm guessing the Vari XII would be just fine as well. Well, Rob has direct experience with the Vari XII in 3 x 9 and that trumps any theory in my book. FWIW, I subsequently put a Leupold Premiere 1-6X on my 416 NRA Lifer; DSC Lifer; SCI member; DRSS; AR member since November 9 2003 Don't Save the best for last, the smile for later or the "Thanks" for tomorow

I put a 1.5x5 Leupold on my 416 Rigby and recently on a 458 Lott. The 416 can easily be a 250 yard gun with that scope or 10 yards. A versatile scope for a versatile caliber.

1.8-5.5X by 38 mm Zeiss Conquest on mine, been tested with over 300 rounds including a buffalo/PG safari last year and still perfect. I think Zeiss has discontinued it and you might find them at a good discount less than or around $300 "Diligentia - Vis - Celeritas" NRA Benefactor Member Member DRSS

I have an old Leupold 2.5X compact on my 416 Rigby. So far, it has help up to the recoil. "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

On our last trip to Africa I used a Leupold 1.5 X 5 (which I have used since 1993) on QD mounts and had a Leupold 3.5 X 10 on the same mount system. In South Africa I would use the 3.5 X 10 with-I think they were-325 grain North Fork bullets for long range shooting and the 1.5 X 5 with 410 grain Woodleigh and 400 grain Swifts for Buffalo and Lion respectively. Take one scope off and put the other on with the appropriate ammo and it worked flawlessly until the reticle in the 3.5 X 10 came loose. I needed to use the 416 Rigby this way as I also had a 500 double for Buffalo in Tanzania which failed anyhow-another story. But the original two scopes and two bullet weights worked perfectly and I will do it again if need be. The display of PURE POWER is nothing short of AWESOME ! 1 JOHN 3:18

On the Zeiss 1.8-5.5 it is a summer promo that they are selling for $299. I personally did not like the eye relief for big bores vs the 1.5-5 Leupy. But it is a very nice scope for a good deal to put on a hunting rifle that someone wants a lower powered scope on.

The Zeiss mentioned above lasted if that is a word exactly 1 shot on my 375 Weatherby. It now wears a vx3 2.5-8x.

Been there doin exactly that. THE KEY is to lap the rings in first My 77rsm in lott.rigby and H@H all wear that type scope and never a problem. Hard to believe how much some ruger rings run un true but a simple lap job is the answer HTH's

That blows. Euro scope usually have too short of an eye relief for my comfort. If I wanted to shave my eyebrow I would use a razor. John

On any rifle above .40 cal I prefer a straight tubed objective scope, as they are lighter and will most likely take the heavy recoil better and put less stress on the mounts. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

I use a Leupold 1-4 shotgun scope on my Sako 416 Rem. I like it because it has the thick reticle and it's made to handle the heavy recoil of a shotgun. Before that I used it on my 375 H&H with great success. Very rugged and less than $200; however any decent scope between 1-9 power should work fine. I put a Fixed 4x Leupold 32mm on a Ruger No.1 in .458 Win. Mag. Duplex reticle, Ruger rings. Works just fine, although it's not practical in heavy cover. I have the same gun in 45/70 Govt. with a Leupold VX III 1.75 - 6x 32 mm. heavy duplex. The heavy duplex, and 1.75x are practical in heavy cover -- NW coastal woods and Roosevelt Elk. Leupold will replace ANY of their stuff for ANY reason. Have a member at the club who backed over his rifle out in the field, with a truck. Leupold replaced the scope. You don't have to be the original owner, have it "registered" or any of that nonsense. "Unconditional Lifetime Warranty" -- and they mean it.
