I will have a 404Jeff project underway this winter and am looking for a contoured barrel blank. Threaded and chambered would be nice, then I don't have to. Lilja and Pac-Nor list them. Are there any other makers? MacGowan lists a .425" not a .423".

Krieger, there is also Half-Moon there in Montana or Dan Pederson in Arizona. Not sure what delivery times are but I think Krieger is well out.

Krieger groove spec is .424".
Lothar Walther is .423".
Pac-Nor .423".
Lilja .423".
McGowen .425". Roll Eyes
Well, it (McGowen 1:10" twist, stainless No. 5 sporter contour of .425" groove spec/.416" bore spec, that slugged about .4245" )
worked OK on my M70 Winchester 404 Jeffery,
but that is why I never could get high enough pressures to equal Ray Atkinson's high velocities obtained with huge quantities of IMR-4831.
It was very accurate with North Fork 380-grainers at 2525 fps, and North Fork 340-grainers at 2706 fps, Woodleigh 400-grainers at +2400 fps, all with Varget.
I don't know how, but it is true. Smiler

Read the CIP specs on the 404 Jeffery "404 Rimless Nitro Express" and you will find bizzare specifications:

Groove: .418"
Bore: .412"
Bullet: .422" diameter
Throat: A leade that starts at .424" diameter and tapers/funnels down to bore diameter, zero parallel-sided free-bore.

I have purchased two Lothar-Walther Heavy Sporter Contours from Woody in Cummins Georgia. Both .423 caliber barrels are very accurate. They were very reasonably price at the time I bought them several years ago.

I think Woody can get a .423 #5130 Mauser Type E barrel in about
6 weeks or less when I talked to him a couple wks ago.

I think price with shipping was around $270? It was under $300 for sure at my door.

That barrel has a 1 in 14.5" twist & .423 groove. Don't remember the lands.

It's a Mauser thing, you wouldn't understand.
