I have a MRC 1999 S/A(mag boltface) on order. What S/A cartridge case could a big bore be built on? I would like to build a big bore on a short action, any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, MtnHtr

I've been wondering the same thing as I have both a standard and magnum bolt face coming. On the magnum it looks like the .350 rem mag is probably the best avaible currently. The cartridge that has me interested though is the .376 steyr. I think it can be done on the standard bolt face if it is opened up a little. Of course I'm not a gunsmith and don't know the particulars, but since standard Mauser have been opened up to magnums for years, it would, from my limited perspective, seem to be an easy modification for someone who knew what they were doing.

The guys at my shop built some 350Rem.mag by 375 (just blew theneck out), for some guys in Alaska some years back, used a Remington 600 at the time I think. Performed real good out of a short barrel they said. Red

You can open the bolt-face up a bit more (to 0.580") and chamber it in either the Lazzeroni Hellcat (0.375") or the Lazzeroni Maverick (0.416"). I get 2550+ fps with a 300gr Nosler in my Hellcat without stretching and Lazzeroni claims 2400fps with the 400gr bullet in the Maverick. Either of those will do the trick.
