Has anyone heard about a new CCI primer with greater brisiance than the 250 or Federal 215.
I have heard that Federal use a primer hotter than the 215 in 470 ammo thereby allowing them to avoid the use of a filler.

Australia
I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of drought and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
Her beauty and her terror
The wide brown land for me!

The use of fillers is to keep the powder near the primer and to take up excess air space.

Neither would be replaced by using a hotter primer per se.

I have never pulled a bullet, but I have shaken a few of the Federal 470 factory rounds and they did not have a filler. It has been reported that Federal uses a special primer [called the 216] to give adequate ignition with the powder they use,[reported to be RL 15].

The Federal load IS RL-15 and the primer is the Federal 216...not available to the handloader. The 216 is MUCH hotter than the 215 magnum. Federal does not use a filler with their 470 loads....there is A LOT of airspace with any of their 470 rounds....the 216 primer makes up for the airspace. If the CCI primer is the equal to the Fed. 216....horray....but how would we mere mortals determine that? IF the CCI is as hot....no more filler! Sounds like we need somebody with those strong Searcy's for a volunteer Wink....right?

With enough fire in the primer one would not need a filler...A filler only holds the powder close to the fire and if the filler is less than it should be then it will sometimes ring the chamber so always use enough filler...

I am sure if CCI comes out with a hot N.E. primer then they will advise us how to load it..as for me I am perfectly content to use my 85 grs. or RL-15 and 5 grs. of dacron or my 108 grs. of IMR-4831 without a filler and a 215, in my .470 until you guys try out the new hot primers.

I hope your right.
