AR 2009 "UGLIEST GUN" Competition
That was a factory finish at some point...?? Big Grin

I'm starting to dig the idea of cheap used guns for experimentating and such...doubt I'd ever see anything like that round these parts though...

RIP
That is the original factory finish, like new, not a scratch on it!
Elmer Fudd designed the camo pattern for NEF.
They don't make this one anymore.
A real collector's item. animal

Plastic stock with big finger-nut on the forend for rapid breakdown and storage in your trouser legs.
2.5 pounds in each pants leg = 5.0-pound shotgun in two pieces.
Sling and recoil pad can go in your pockets.

23" smoothbore barrel with full choke (fixed), and rifle sights that are now right on.
I had to break the paint seal on the rear sight to move it for adjustment of windage & elev.
Sights had never been adjusted until today.

I paid $149 for the gun.
Found the "matching sling" and Sims slip-on in my odds and ends.
Dedicated squirrel shotgun now, with "Sevens and a Half."
Will carry a single 3.5" turkey load in my pocket, Barney Fife style.

Some of the worst expressions of the gunmaker's art show up on the auction sites, usually described as "custom."

My 13 year old son wears "flip flops" as much as he can and hunts in Vans if I'll let him so he's probably up to speed with your Sanuks.

Oops, I really hi-jacked this one didn't I?

Now back to the ugly rifles...

Kyler, I spent two years at Cal Poly SLO......

I'm a SoCal native and I don't have any ugly footwear....... Confused

Happy to say I don't have any ugly guns either...... Big Grin

Looks like a few of us are from the same area. Born in San luis Obispo, raised in Cayucos. Went to Cuesta, but very familiar with Cal Poly and Poly Royal event. Father in law was an Agriculture professor there. I taught a few classes on glazing there as well. Nice ladies there! Cheers. beer

My old .458 Lott built on a M-70 stainless action. I am pretty sure that Ruger copied this rifle with their Hawkeye Alaskan. I had showed this to a senior Ruger management guy who I had guided on a hunt. He flipped out and took a bunch of pictures when he saw it, that about 2 years before the Hawkeye came out.

Notice the fine electrical tape holding the recoil pad on.

Granted, a lot of work went into that "rifle". Why, at some point, didn't anybody notice it was ugly? Simply too much!

Her name's Geraldine (long story). She's what's left of a BPS 10 gauge. Painted her myself 20 years ago with several cans of Krylon. Maybe you can make out the gobbler that's been standing guard on the stock for 2 decades. Her barrel was too long as a 30-incher so we hacked it down to the rib post at 23 1/2" and re-threaded her. Worked on the chamber and forcing cone, screwed in a Comp-N-Choke tube and screwed on a Light-N-Sight ghost ring. I guess you can say she's a "custom" gun. Cool She's been under water a handful of times and been used to break ice more than once. Although, between turkeys and geese, she's downed more pounds of protien than a lot of guys' deer rifles.........she's butt-freakin' ugly. Really ugly to look at, terribly ugly to shoot, and horrifically ugly if you're the one soaking up the swarm of fine shot she'll throw to absurd distances.

Sorry about the crop job. Had to get rid of some guns that were just a tad too pretty. Roll Eyes
