I recently purchased a very early Brno mod. 1 in 22 L.R. It matches a couple of my big bore rifles, like soaking one in water and shrinking it, Has a schnable forend, a great trigger pull, 3 leaf rear sight marked 25, 50 and 100 yards, hold 4 down and one up, rust blue, mod. 70 safety sorta, I shot a rock chuck in my pasture and he charged, and I rolled him up in a ball on the second shot..Did I mention I missed the first shot..shooting off hand in fairly dangerous game country, We have Badgers too you know...This little gun shoots nickel size holes up to 65 yards with iron sights. I had to file them down to match the markings and that was fun, and only took a little off each sight, and cut shallow Vs where there were Us, any DG gun should have V sights.. Ordered talley rings and getting ready to refinish the European walnut stock, and it will have a place of honor between my 338 and 375!! Its just plain neat and like no other 22, it looks like a real rifle. About 4 lbs maybe 5..slim and trim. I know I should have put this gun in the rimfire section so I did! We've got a Model 2, It's good but I prefer the rear sights on the Model 1. Can't say I'm that wrapped in the safety, though - too stiff and noisy. My sister's boyfriend had a Model 1 when I was a kid. He let me use it and, after our old single-shot .22s, it felt like a classic big game rifle to me.

I polished out the safety and its tops now..I am also refinishing the stock, its a dandy and super accurate little gun..I remember Finn Aaagard had one, that I lusted for but never could get him interested in parting with it.. Got it refinished now, Talley 16MM rings make it work with any scope..Took off the Leupold Alaskan and using a straight 4X Leupold, Got it together and it quit shooting those one inch groups..Worked with it for half a day, no luck, added a business card shim up front as a last resort and bingo a 5 shot groups that you can cover with a nickel at 50 yards..Best accuracy with WW stuff that give 1280 FPS..Fed HPs about as good,Aguila at 1700 FPS shoot about an inch bu at that velocity its got to be a winner.. Have yet to try stringers..Ive found that with 22s you need to try all brands and wights to glean their best accuracy.. So, you make the safety less stiff by polishing it? I must give it a go. Meanwhile I'm going to the range tomorrow and will probably take my Anschutz 1416 with the Nickel 3-10 to finish the day. I find it helps relax the nerves after shooting the bigger calibres. On a calm day, that is an accurate little rifle, too.

I suspect the 22 L.R. has made more people better shots than any caliber in existence. A day spent hunting running Jack Rabbits with a 22 is a day well spent..One of my favorite hunts.
