OK got my Whitworth all refinished new scope installed ready to go. But I really need a leather sling that fits it's character. My normal neopreme sling while nice soft and shock absorbing would look way out of place.

What I'm looking for is a nice clasic style reddish brown sling. I had picked up a flyer for a dealer at the Houston SCI show but now can't find it.

Suggestions and/or leads would be appreciated.

You might try Westley Richards as they sell a 2 inch canvas sling with leather cinches to retain the swivels. Nice and looks like it belongs to an African rifle. Look under rifle assecesories. It is easily folded or rolled up to go into a pocket when not needed.

I use a canvas/leather sling from Cabelas, but don't see it in their current catalog. They were reasonably priced with good leather attachments and solid brass fittings. They have a couple of rubber threads on inside to reduce slipping. They are almost exactly like the Westley Richards but tons cheaper. I think they are available from the guy that bought Cape Outfitters and also from Mulholland Leather and from Trader Keiths for $50. The Cabelas were half that.The Cabelas is marked on the package Webbing Sling (extendable) AL689-LAR

I really like theHunter Leather Deluxe Carrying Strap Model 27-161 (pretty sure that's the number). It is not really wide and it ties with leather - really nice for the "hasty sling" set up. Not real dark at first but darkens with use and oiling. If you contact Midway, they'll get it ordered for you.

I don't know if you can see it well, but it's on my 375 H&H.

Suggest you contact Leslie Tam in Hawaii. Do a Yahoo search, etc. for number, e mail, fax, etc. He without question mfg.s the finest in quality heavy duty slings. Now if you just want a carry sling, not one to be used for aid in shooting, he may not be the one, but for usefull quality leather sling, he can not be beaten. Worth your investigation and price is somewhere in the low 60"s.

I hadn't thought of the canvas leather until you guys brought it up. Like the look of the Westley Richards. Soemthing like the A1 would be a close second. Just nice functional.

I agree with "Zimbabwe". I also have the Cabelas version for my .375 and like it. It does seem to be missing from the current catalog. Was it possibly made by Mulholland Brothers?

I also agree that the Westley Richards offerings are nice but not worth the premium price. Check out www.jeffsoutfitters.com for similar and reasonably priced slings. Their cartridge belts are identical to the WR ones but almost a third of the price. I know, I have the more expensive WR model and my buddy has the Jeff's Outfitters version. Side bt side, no difference. A $100.00 mistake on my part.

Finally, don't get too caught up in how your sling looks on your particular rifle. After all, it is comfort and durability in the field that really counts in the long run. I plan on getting a neoprene type of sling for my custom .458WM for next years trip to Zimbabwe.

Got mine from Cabelas and it helped my carry my Whitworth all around Namibia, good sling. I'm pretty sure Rusty got his from Trader Keith's, who may be the maker. I think Trader K usually has an ad in Gun List. Bob

Do folks generally prefer the slings that tie on to swivel studs with a leather tie or attach to the regular metal pieces (the Uncle Mike's sort of thingamajig) that attach to the swivel studs? Seems like the pro with the version that ties is that it would be quiet, since there is no metal to metal contact. The con would be that it cannot be removed and reattached very easily. Thoughts?

Thanks that is more like I was thinking. While I'm looking to get something that looks right. If push comes to shove and I'me going to pack the rifle all day for several days I would probably grap the neopreme one I normally use in the mountains. Doesn't slip and cushions the weight since it streches with each step.
