I have seen a website for a 50 BMG handgun myself and saw some model of revolver(can't remeber which) that fired 45-70.
Also have heard people mention a 600 nitro handgun before. Any links to this one?

What else is out there?

Karl.

You got to be kidding man. There is no way a 50 BMG or 600 Nitro can be chambered with a reasonable sized revolver.

The 45-70 is possible as there are at least 2 companies that are making a revolver for this cartridge. Magnum Research and Phillips and Rodgers are the 2 companies. This is a big and long revolver but I don't think they are very efficient in burning a full case of powder for the 45-70. Check them out and here are the links.

And as far as the 600 Nitro, well there is one. It was made on a double action, and used as a last ditch gun for dangerous game hunters way back when. I read an article on it a year or so ago and havent been able to find any more info on it. But It is out there. Very impresive t olook at, I imagine very painful to shoot.

Who said anything about a 'reasonable sized revolver'?
The topice is 'novelty guns'
The 50 BMG handgun was discussed here last year and was not a revolver.
Thanks for the other links

Karl.

The .600 NE revolver was a run of 100 made by a German gunsmith very recently. While I was there, the German magazine "Kaliber" ran a story on it.

This beast weighs 19lbs, holds 5 rounds, and has a muzzle brake. It comes with a spare barrel and cylinder in a more "practical" chambering; .458 WinMag.

I don't have the magazine, but a friend gave me the poster that was in the magazine. I'll see if I can find it and scan it.

I know of one legitamite 50BMG handgun and one hoax. The legit one is from Harris and is the Harris Desert Rhino stockless. They make a single shot bolt action .50BMG that is shorter than the Steyr Scout, and has a brake the size of a Coke can. I believe the barrel is 16inches. Supposedly the recoil is like a 16gage, but with a muzzle blast of a nuclear warhead, thats the last of your concern .
The hoax is from www.birdman.org . It is a hilarious sight and i would suggest it highly for a good laugh. They also sell a kit for a $20 .50 BMG, i was rolling on the floor while reading about it and the other "products" they make.

SSK Industries pretty much built it's reputation on big bore Encores.
Just take a look at their site and you will see many ultra-HandCannons in their Encore section. Like this baby..... I want one

BTW, thats a 50 Alaskan 750. (a 50A throated for BMG bullets)

All I can say is where is my towel?! I'm drooling all over the keyboard. That BFR of Magnum Research is within reach of everybody, just find a dealer who'll order for 10% over his cost. A double action 45/70 wow. I think they should do the 500 Linebaugh though, that is an enormous cartridge.
Artistry in steel...they are just too pretty to be put in a holster, it would look better sitting in my lap.

If anyone can tell me how to post pictures I will post a picture of one JD Jones developed. It is a .378 Weatherby case cut down to 2" and necked to .50 Cal. It is an awesome cartridge. Shot it 6 times and my hand was turning numb.

Gentlemen! Where do you aquire this information? It'll be like determing wheter the afgans need a 10 or a 12 Megaton Warhead to take out Bin Shit. Estimate and NUKE a 300 mile circle, and you'll be there, more or less. In the long run does it matter? If the animal falls on it's ass, then does the boolit size and speed matter that much? One good stab kills a man at once! 100 poorly stabs scratch him, and gets him pissed! Size "don't" matter, placement matters!

I dont believe I'd calss the Magnum Research as a "novelty", none of their chamberings.

I do believe I'd call them legitimate hunting and sporting arms however. I want one of their BFRs in .450 Marlin to match my levergun.

Big bore handgun hunting is ethical, challengeing, and fun as hell. Sure its a biggie, but with practice ?.......................10

I rate the BFR's as novelties simply because they are so big and heavy, that they stretch the term handgun. To each there own, I'd take a rifle over a BFR, IMHO the purpose of hunting with a handgun is to have a relatively light and compact handgun one can pack on their hip, w/o the fear that their pants will down around their knees, or that the barrel will drag on the ground. I carried my 7 1/2" 480 about a month in the field last year, and to me, it was a bit too much for the hip. I'll try a bandoleer holster this year, which has the added benefit of keeping it higher away from the water I'm in and around during hunting season, but I'd still like a 5" barreled gun.

DanD,
Thanks for the info. No, it is not JDJ's .500 whisper. Let's see if this image comes across. Here it is beside a .243 for comparison.
