I shot some 350 Barns solids in my 404 yesterday...they were 350 grains I got on sale. They seemed to shoot about 5 inches high at 60 yards. THE LOAD WAS 70 GRAINS OF 3031. What will the 400 grain bullets do? Will the point of impact be lower? Thanks urdubob

Every rifle is different, but in most of my larger bores the heavier bullets do hit lower in relation to point of aim than the light bullets. Good luck with your 404. Did you slug the bore? I would be a bit concerned about monolithics unless the groove diameter is .423 instead of .418 or so. Jim

I agree with Jims' generalized comments. Were I a betting man, I'd say the 400's will be roughly 2-3" lower in .404, much the same as when comparing the POI of like-branded 350 / 400 grain .416 bullets. Similarly, most 350 / 500 grain comparisions in .458 are 5-6" disparate. This is not etched in stone but has been my experience when all weights are loaded to similar pressures.
