Well It's finally done! I put about 100 hrs into the stock. Ed at AHR arranged for the stock to be checkered and it came out absolutely awesome. The finish is a hand rubbed Pro-Stock oil from Brownells as was the stain. The finished rifle weighs 13 lbs and was built using a VEKTOR action and integral barrel system from Butch Searcy. I did the blueing myself ( It's a hot sodium hydroxide/ sodium nitrate blue-It's actually black). I still need to do the bolt handle next time I fire up the tanks. The rifle shoots as good as it looks and it's recoil is really not a problem at all. I spent alot of time on the action getting it to feed properly. It uses a precise Metalsmithing magazine box which holds three down and NOW will even feed empty cases like they are on ball bearings. I had to do alot of very careful file work on the rails and follower to get this to work. For those who care the mounts are Talley's that have been lapped and the bridge of the action was machined to fit them.-Rob

Well done, Rob! When you figure in the hours sometimes required, it's just amazing how reasonably priced the finer custom rifles are.
I wish there was a way to compare notes on the subtle action work required to facilitate the big casing. My .505 also feeds and extracts the empty cases perfectly, so long as they're Horneber! [Smile]

RGB,

Brilliant, sir! You are an artist every bit as much as a Michelangelo or a Raphael!

I can't wait to see pictures of your 600 OK when it is ready - it is bound to be at least as beautiful if not more so!

Good shooting and please do post pictures of your safari and trophies. [Smile]

Great looking rifle. Are you left handed? Why is the cheek piece on the right side?

Regards,

Terry

Thanks everybody- This was an interesting rifle for sure. I am left eye dominant and thus shoot lefty, but prefer a right hand bolt. I plan to take her to Africa in 2004 for an Ele hunt with Johan Calitz. This will be my first Ele hunt and there is something Nostalgic about using a 505 Gibbs.-Rob
