Well, I've been tossing it about for a while and have about decided to order myself a "light" DR.

I've got the heavy end covered. This would be something smaller than 9.3 (Then again, I might consider a 9.3x74r)... what are your suggestions?

9.3x74R
8x57JRS
7x65R
30R Blaser

It depends on what you want to hunt. The 9.3's don't kick much, so they make a great versatile rifle because of the ability to hunt something big. But a vintage sidelock .303 would make a fun pig gun.

I can whole heartedly recommend the 9.3x74R. The little Chapuis I have is fitted with a 1.5-6x42 S&B scope and 20 gauge 3" bbls.
It is light, handy, and the recoil is reasonable for a light rifle. Has done a great job of piggies and whitetails for me.

Given the performance of the 9.3x62 bolt rifle I took to Africa a year ago, I'd guess that the 9.3x74R should do very, very well on plains game and with a high light gathering scope should be a rather nice rig for Mr. Spots too.

The 9.3x74R should be good for anything in NA save the big bears where range and shooter skill allows it's use.

As a shotgun, the little Chapuis has been a joy to use on quail, Chukkar and Pheasant. While I have relatively little experience with really nice shotguns, the Chapuis moves as well as any shotgun I've had the pleasure to try ... and I hit more birds in a single afternoon than in the rest of my outings combined.

The .470 and 9.3x74R pair makes a super battery for lots of fun occasions. As you have the bigger one, investing in the smaller would be a great move!

I agree with Mike, I have been using my 9,3x74R Chapuis for about 7 years or so. I think it is the best under 40 cal double rifle. I have taken game as far as 300+ yards [kudu, with scope of course]. It is not too big for deer sized game, or coyote, jackel, civet cat, and klipspringer for that matter, yet big enough for all other game under buff. I would not be afraid to hunt the big bears with mine. I do consider it light for buff and elephant. The 9,3x74R Chapuis is my favorite hunting rifle under 40 cal.

It depends a lot on what you will be hunting. The 30R Blaser is a 3006 like cartridge.
The 7x65 is much like 7mmRem mag.
The 8x57 I dont know much about, exept it is old.
The 9,3 x 74R I know, own and shoot myself. It has done a great job, for me, on moose. Little meatdamage quick kills. I shoot it in a Tikka mod. 512 ejector doublerifle. Very handy to shoot and not that good looking. I do not consider it a long range cartridge. 150meters max.
