Remington 798 in 375 H&H what are your thoughts on this rifle a friend of mine is looking at a 375 H&H and this is brand new at the shop at a reasonable price compared to CZ.

I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

Its a Zastava with a Remington name on it.
Zastava's have been around in SA for a long time. Before Rem they were sold under the name Mark X and Charles Daly in the US. Search those names and I am sure you will find lots of info.

Not fancy but good working rifles at a decent price. I haven't seen one new in a while but they used to be a little rough, so he may want to send it to a smith for some light tuning/polishing etc.

Not sure what the sights are like on the 798.

A bunch of the 798s went on clearence at a distributer here in the US recently. Everyone that purchased one seems to be pretty happy with it. Zastava has been making them for a long time and know what they are doing.

The laminated lower cost version will look exactly like this. I got one in 458 a while ago.

CDNN has them for $499. I bought one a few weeks ago and it looks good. I'll get to shoot it next week. They seem to be a solid buy for the money.

Wish we could pick it up for $499 a decent price for us new is $1500 but yes the rifle does bring interest and I like the look of the stock.

The open sights seems good as well and I'm sure any competent gunsmith can smooth out the action.

I looked at both and bought the 798. It costs less and handles better. The CZ holds more rounds.

As others have said, valve grinding compound, a proper sized wooden/plastic rod and sandpaper, the bad boy will slick right up. It is just a little harder to top off the magazine in the 798 after you have fired a couple of rounds. You gotta tip the rear of the case back, down and in.

Mine killed a bull ele in Zim last year, so I will keep it till they put me in the ground. Besides everybody needs a sweet handling .375.

I have one in 458. the action was a little rough but oiling and working the bolt a few time cured that.it needed a litle cleaning at the breach when it arrived. replaced recoil pad help felt recoil (MY prefrence) trigger is ajustible without creap if you ajust it right. if you do it wrong you wil have a little creap in it. wood stock looks good to me Big Grin. groove the sight shroud so you get some light on the front sight if you have old eyes like me.
