I've been looking at that stuff; customer wants it but it has to hold one up and three down. They don't make it for that. Also, take a look at the recoil jug, kind small and with the sight soldered on, what happens if it comes loose, albeit a small chance?

Jim , the under barrel lug on my 458 was silver soldered on 15 years ago and it hasn't come loose yet . I agree that lug isn,t huge , but with a cross bolt and J B Weld bedded it would be fine for most rifles .. If the 2nd lug and rear sight base arn,t integral , I think this is the best option .............. Anyone can put on, bolt on stuff . It takes a good gunsmith to silver solder something like this on and do a good job ...... IMO , thats what makes a gunsmith ....And makes him worth the money ......

I think they do make one that holds the "1 standing, 3 folding" sight. It is # RW16570

In my limited experience wouldn't you think the recoil lug on the sight would be an additional lug and not the primary one?

Yes the recoil lug on the ring base is a "secondary" recoil lug,
secondary to the "primary" recoil lug on the action.

No other barrel recoil lug would need to be added, if that is what you are getting at.

The lugs on those ring bases may not be as wide as some barrel lugs, but when such a lug is set against a glass-bedded, hidden crossbolt in the forearm, it is plenty wide.

The ring can be soldered on, plus more: screwed, pinned, etc.
It has a lot more area for contact and bonding with the 360-degree wrap and length.
The add-on separate secondary lug on a barrel can compete in grip by being set in a flat/slot/dovetail on the bottom of the barrel before soldering.
Gee whiz, that is cutting into the barrel and then refilling the cut with solder and steel from the add-on lug. O.K., that works great too.

They have lots of sizes and configurations, some greater than an inch I.D., and various dovetails for the sight insert on top, with and without the recoil lug on the bottom.

They would work great on the stepped contour of Mauser barrels, and Lothar walther barrels.
A gunsmith with the right lathe setup could do some nice fitting to other barrels, eh?

Silver brazing can withstand about 60kPSI in the shear. Most mild steels are 60kPSI. It would take a lot to knock one off.
