Anyone heard of a 700 NE 3.5" RIMLESS? Anyone know the specs?

I found it by accident on MUNICION.ORG, and it is listed as a custom cartridge by Gerald Quintel ("700 rimless" and "G Q" on base). He also loads custom ammo (or he did?). Anyone know him, know of him, and/or have his contact information (I found that too, but, his address as listed for his ammunition auctions is currently also listed as a trucking company's address?)

For a bolt action rifle, it seems a better option than the "standard" 700 NE 3.5", though not in Rob's or Hubel's class.

I am also quite curious as I can only find the rimless in one more place...the IAA, in issue 408, page 39 (that is the listing on their website...I don't have the issue myself).

Any help or background would be appreciated...

Respects,

Phill

I have my 700H 3.25" version, and in a
bolt gun it'll outdo 700NE loaded for break
actions. And we have cases, reamers, dies.Ed

Wayne at AHR has the 700 AHR cartridge if you're thinking of getting into a 700. Give him a shout at American Hunting Rifles.

There is the .700RLG which is a .50BMG blown out to .700. I launches a 1000 gr bullet over 3000fps. Mine was built on acmillan repeater action in a Tactical stock. It's a wonderful boulder breaker.-Rob

Biebs...Wayne is currently finishing two builds for me, a 600 OK and a 700 AHR. So why my interest in the 700 NE Rimless?

Wayne and I have become friends over the last few years, and I asked him why he did not just create a TRUE .700 caliber round as his "End-All", as opposed to the .685 caliber 700 AHR. His response was that he did not need to, as the .685 was quite impressive as it was, and the difference was so slight that he decided he had gone far enough.

Seeing as how the 700 AHR is so freakin' powerful, why do I want a "TRUE" .700? Well, just because that is what we do here...push the envelope. After all has been said, Rob's .700 RLG is far and away shaming most all cartridges, though I could not use it for stalking/hunting like I could a .700 NE Rimless, despite the weight and heft.

Rob...never got a chance to say thank you for inventing what could just be the best all-around DG hunting round to date...600 OK. Am anxious to receive mine and take it afield.

As far as the .700 RLG, could you please give me some further specs? I know that SSK INDS makes 50 BMG rifles with McM's and tact stocks, but these are usually 42 lbs. I am assuming that your rock breaker is also in that weight category?

Does not mean I could not use it, just not port it.

Whbh-The .700RLG weighs only16 lbs and it can be shot offhand. It has a huge muzzle break and the recoil isn't quite as bad as you'd imagine. I built a .600 version first, then the .700, which gave me the original idea for the 12gaFH, except I could not get the McMillan bolt to work with a Rimmed cartridge. I actually began work on converting a Barrett M82A1 to .700 RLG but never finished it.
You will really enjoy your .600ok. Everyone who has one does!-Rob

Somehow, it seems like Safarikid should pop up, and mention its a great caliber for a 5# mountain gun...

Do you shoot the boulders, or put the rifle butt against them? dancing

My 700HE long case has same power as Rob's
only it is belted case. I have got one in Vulcan bmg action
and one in MRC PH. It is 3.87" long case and loaded length can
be made to feed from reworked mag in the PH.
My 3.25" 700 feeds from mag in PH at factory
length.Picture shows the short and long 700HEs.Ed

Ed...no disrepect intended...I should have mentioned your 700 HE along with Rob's 700 RLG.

I think we all owe you a debt of gratitude for your pioneering work on wildcats...I guess you are the heir to G.Van Horn!

Rob...good news on the 700 RLG! I did not realize that it was "so" light. 16 lbs is not bad at all.

What kind of cost are we talking about for a 700 RLG build similar to your own? I might be interested, as your cartridge overwhelms the 1100 gr bullet @ 2200 fps numbers for the other 700 I was considering, the 700 JDJ (if I could still get them to build one for me).

However, regarding builds, I am a hunter, shooter, and reloader only...I am not a professional gunsmith nor a master builder. If I chose that cartridge, who would you suggest as a builder, considering that you might not have time (or other reasons) to do it yourself...?

Lastly, do you have any pics to post of the 700 RLG cartridge and/or completed gun build?

Respects,

Phill

WHBH- The guns pretty straightforward. Just a Mcmillan .50BMG repeater action on a macMillan Tac 50 stock with a Pac-Nor barrel and a Big ass break. If you want a lighter stock, Mike Manners could make one in carbon fibre for you. I have the reamer and headspace gauges and you can borrow them. I may even still have a spare break for it. I had the reloading dies made by CH4D and they probably still have the specs so you can get another set made. If you buy an action, I'm sure Pac-Nor could barrel and chamber it for you. I've sent them my reamers before. You should be able to duplicate it for 4K or so. I even used a leupold 2.5X on mine as the Mcmillan action came with a picatinny rail. I'll see if I can find any pictures.-Rob
