Hope to play some more soon with my .416 Taylor, which has a stainless 1:14 PacNor on a VZ24 action. Seems the cheapest jacketed slugs for target range play are the Speer 350s, but has anyone found them considerably more or less accurate than the Hornady 400s? I am not worried about game performance at this point, just load workups, practice and big-bore plinking.

Well, I too thought that the Speer 350s would be good cheap bullets to plink with. And they are. But my 416Rigbys will print 400 gr Hornady, Nosler Part, XLC and Barnes Solids into the same group at 100yards. It is a nice feature. I can practice with the inexpensive Hornadys and hunt with anything, no sight changes. It has been my experience that the 350 Speers do not print to the same point of impact. Off by a few inches, not real bad, but not worth the hassle to me. For what it's worth, that's is what I've found out so far. Best of luck to you. Bill in NE

I haven't noticed any difference in group size between the 350 gr. Speer & the 400 gr. Hornady. The 350 gr. Speer does hit about 3" higher than the 400 gr. I think., could be a bit more. That is 350 gr. @ 2540 fps, 400 gr. @ 2375 fps. Rifle is a Ruger No.1 single shot in 416 Rem [ 01-23-2003, 11:25: Message edited by: todbartell ]
