This video is a walk around of a pig I shot a few weeks back with my .458 Win Mag and 510gr SoftPoints. The entrance wound is on the chest (5+ Inches) and when the bullet exited it broke the back leg. The 100lb hog was thrown 4 feet upon impact from the big Winchester!

First time putting videos up by myself with the new camcorder so bare with me Wink

Warning - BIGGER VIDEO!
Warning - POSSIBLE CUSSING nilly

.458 Hog

I tried to view the video with my monitor brightness cranked at 100, but the video is still dark. Try to adjust the gamma/contrast/brightness settings, and re-digitize the video. I would like to see it.

The first boar I ever shot was with a 458 win mag & reduced load 350gr RN, ~ 2100 fps. A broadside shot nearly lifted a 200 lb sow a foot in the air, then it fell over like a deck of cards. It never got up.

Did you recover the bullet?

I'm surprised ya'll cant see the video very well? I can see it very good in the link. Although not perfect, we had the flashlight on the main points (entrance and exit wounds) so that you could see

I'm reuploading it onto another website as we speak so hopefully the quality goes up.

Looks like a massive wound! Next time put your hand next to it so we will have a size reference. What brand bullet did you use?

Mississippian- it was the Winchester 510gr Soft Point Big Grin I wish now that I would have put something next to the wound for reference, but you can tell it was a big entrance! I'm sure it got immediate heartburn hillbilly

I have some Hornady 500 gr soft points I may try on some piggys next month. I would guess they would have very similar performance.

I think anything coming from a 458 will have similar effectiveness on a hog! Big Grin

It is just the factory Winchester offering, I picked up a bunch with the gun, and bought some on Cheaperthandirt.com for around $46/box.

Later on in the video you can see that the bullet broke the back leg and exited. the hole wasnt big but there isnt much surface area on a pig.

Glad you enjoyed the video

Justin
