| Customs confiscated Woodliegh bullets being sent to me from a dealer in Alberta. I'm in Houston and got a nasty letter from customs in Nort Dakota or Montana. Just let th have the bullets and I was OK. |

| At one time cases and bullets would cross the border either way. That is no longer the case. I believe you need an import export license to do that. |

| I know exporting you have to comply with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). You probably have to comply with ITAR for importing also. Yes, things have gotten this stupid. |

18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(17)(A) The term "AMMUNITION" means ammunition or cartridge cases, primers, bullets, or propellant powder designed for use in any firearm. This means import of ammunition as defined above requires submission and approval of an ATF Form 6 by a licensed importer, or in the case of an individual for personal use, by a licensed FFL dealer. I am not familiar with the regulations for export of such items, but I assume the same requirements apply in obtaining an export license. |

| What xausa said. The same rules apply when importing firearms, ammunition, or components. Bullets and cases are components. To import yourself is such a pain in the neck that it isn't worth it unless you are bringing it in with you. Even then you need to do the proper paperwork, the same as if coming in with a firearm you purchased overseas with a big exception. You don't need to pay the 11% Firearms and Ammunition Excise Tax (FAET) on firearms if you bring in less than 50 a year so bringing in one for yourself is no problem. But all ammunition and components incur 11% FAET regardless of the quantity. The IRS does not collect FAET for firearms, ammunition or components, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) does. So that's another Federal form to fill out and file along with your payment. Using a Class 08 FFL holder is the way to go but is hardly worth it for a couple of boxes of bullets. FWIW, I have had my Class 08 FFL for several years and have dealt with many of these issues first hand.

| ill call the batf and see what paper work ill have to do, i mailed a box of woodlieghs a few months back and it went through no problem and i know for sure a few years back i could just mail boxes of bullets with no issues but if the Americans have tightened it up this much it may not be worth it for 3-4 boxes of wooodlieghs now.
i just wanted to get rid of a few boxes of bullets i no longer use. i got spoiled living right on the can/usa border i could just hop over and buy stuff or hop over and mail stuff. |
