Hey,

After much deliberation last year on this forum regarding putting together a .375 on a manageable budget, it is finally ready to roll. I had been considering rebarrelling an onhand M700SS or buying a Ruger #1 when I found a M70 Safari Express on the Classified forum here at A-R. I think that I got a good deal considering the existing stock, scope and mounts were sold on eBay to fund the new JRS Classic stock/Decelerator. I was able to swap the Warne Premier bases from the M700 for a set for the M70 and picked up the JRS laminate from Midway on sale the week after Christmas. The barrel band, trigger work, action job, ERA single leaf rear and Williams front sight were left as is.

It shoots 1.5" groups with standard 270gr softpoint factory loads (RN). I received 200+ Hornady 270 RNSP, 40+ Barnes 300gr X, 40+ Barnes 300gr Original RN Solids, and handfulls of 300gr Nosler partitions and Winchester silvertips, 200pcs of brass and dies with the original purchase and am planning to work on a 270 SP load and a 260gr Accubond load in preparation for hunting season.

Nice looking gun

I do have a question though, who is the maker of the sling? I've been looking (well not too hard) for something like that.

BTW, my max load for Hornady 270 RNSP bullet in my M70 is 75.5 gr. RL15 using Fed. 215 primers in Winchester brass. Remember this max in my gun, start lower, yada, yada, yada.

I don't usually get excited about the look of guns but that is a classy looking rifle, congrats.

Excellent job...it's a looker. Now that it's this far may I recommend you either learn checkering or spend a couplke "C-Notes" and get it checkered.

Sounds like you got an excellent package deal... I've personally had nothing but good experiences in my dealings with AR members here when it comes to the classifieds.

That sling came from Cabelas about 4 years ago. I bought two of them and they are so long that I did not have a use for them until I got a rifle with a barrel band sling stud. See how the buckle is barely off of the rear stud? It is 2" wide with 1" swivels.

Works nicely.

Thanks for the idea on the checkering. I might give it a go next summer.

That is a Burris 1.5-6 Signature in Matte finish held in Warne Maxima Lever Rings and steel bases. I have about $895 in the project
to date.

Nice rifle indeed ! Did you get the stock ready to go from Boyds? and did you have to do any fitting? I assume the previous owner updated the sights? I have been toying with doing one of these up in a stainless Mod 70. I cant see the detail, but was the barrel band factory? Once again, nice rifle.

The Boyd's stock was inletted, bedded, and the Decelerator Pad installed by my local riflesmith. The barrel band swivel and ERA rear sight were added by a previous owner.
