Russ GouldI just built one for myself ... M98 with P14 bottom metal, custom stainless mag box .. gives 4+1 .. best of both worlds: compact bulletproof mauser 98 action that does not require the major surgery necessary to look nice that an Enfield requires, but you have that extra round without spending a fortune on custom bottom metal. The only tricky part is the trigger, and there's a trick to that!

Idaho SharpshooterWant a true classic, but a bit less commonly encountered? My 98 is barreled, etc for the 425 WR cartridge. The simple cure is to acquire a magnum bolt and just use RUM cases.
That is how I did mine. James Kobe did the metal work for me. I also have a complete set of form dies I would loan you, or make you some cases.

This is my 404, a Cogswell & Harrison. They chose the P-14 Enfield action for their 404.

Russ GouldIf anyone needs a p14 action with all the usual "sporter" mods including reprofiling to Rem 700 contour and reboxing/railing to long magnum ctg, I have a couple ready for barreling and finishing.

AtkinsonIve built them on 98 Mausers, magnum Mausers and the Enfields and Remington mod. 30 Enfields..
I prefer the magnum Mausers but they are bloody expensive so I mostly use the Enfields or the Remington mod 30, the Remingtons are less work and a little nicer as the tough part is done IMO...
I may be the only person in the universe that loves that ugly hammer safety on the Enfields, and most of mine had the mod. 70 type as it sells better...
That hammer safety is pure function and hard to miss. It IMO is the ultimate Dangerous game safety..stocked with a detailed frame around it, it can be made to look pretty nice on a custom..

CougarzNo Ray there's one more. I too like the Enfield safety "as is".
I have a nice Remington made 1917 Enfield that I would really like to do a low cost conversion to .404 Jeffery. It's already been sporterized sometime in the 20's or 30's so the ears are gone. It's fitted with a Pacific receiver sight and banded front sight. So far I'm unsure about how or who to get with to complete the job or what's a fair price. I've never tried to have one built before. Any help would be appreciated.

butchlambertNick Hughes would be very hard to beat. Nick did a lot of the metal work on my 416.

Colin MastersI have said it before and I will say it again. That rifle of Butch's is one of the most beautiful rifles I have ever seen.

butchlambertI really appreciate that!

CougarzYes that rifle is probably the nicest Enfield I've ever seen. A lot more than I'm planning but nice none the less.
