A little Googling resulted in only a little info...

According to Chamber Reamers page at Sisk Rifles, Pacific Tool sells the 460 G&A reamer. "Contact Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool for purchases." info@pacifictoolandgauge.com or http://www.pacifictoolandgauge.com/contact.htm

It is just a .404 Jefferys necked up to .458 caliber so you can use the 404 drawings I suppose.

From memory of Pics in an old G&A Bigbores special which had the 460 G&A in it with Tom Siatos taking on Safari, it had the shoulder pushed much further forward & a much steeper angle than the 404 Jeff. It would be much more akin to the 416 Dakota or 375 RUM necked up to 458 cal.

Hi Brad, just as an alternative too, Roy Vincent also has 2 .458 versions based on the .404 case, one short and one long. I do not know why the .460 G&A is not more popular in Africa, it sounds like a pretty good DG cartridge. I do know that some people had head-space problems, but do not know if these were few and far between.

Jeffe's version sounds superb, and he could provide a wealth of information on it. I do think though that in Africa .404 brass would probably be easier to find though than RUM. I think Jeffe's version uses RUM brass if I am not mistaken, not yet very ubiquitous in Africa. I am sure that both brass types are very similar, but probably not interchangeable!

The above post from Nickudu sent me off to my carefully filed Wink old mags & I scanned these images from the 1983 G&A/Hunting Big Bore rifles edited by one Jack Lott.

From the diagram it is possible to see that the shoulder is about 1/4" further forward than on the 404 Jeff. & nearly twice as steep but the case is trimmed/ forms to about 60thou shorter.

How come it's all done on Jeffery brass??

With the .416 rigby popularity, I'm sure someone must have made a "short" 2.5"case .450 on rigby brass.

to answer your question, the 404 and the rum cases feed FAR easier in a staggered magwell than a rigby case, no matter how short. the 500 AR is a little tough to get to feed, and that's a 2.65" rigby case,

To my knowledge that is what the South African .450 Majoor is. Developed by Jurie Majoor.

Other short .404's in clude the .450 African express and the .450 Vincent short - mentioned by others.

I didn't know there was a .460 G&A short. The difference between the AE, Vincent and G&A short versions must be very slight indeed, with the biggest diff perhaps the AE, which is 2.65", not 2.5".
