Dear A C If you read my post then you would know that I can not get American powders and as IMR are located in Shawnee Mission, KS 66201 that will make then American. But thanks any way. Cheers, Andr

Andre, because cast bullets are 25 or less, delivered, each, even gas checked, and jacketed bullets start at $1.00... If i use surplus powder and cast bullets, I am able to reload for LESS than the cost of the charge of RL15, 600 grains at 2200 is a pretty stiff load, and bets the 500 NE. jeffe

Here are the max loads for 500 jeff from A-Square's manual: 570 grain bullet 104.0 H4985 = 23498 fps 104.0 IMR 4064 = 2343 fps 120.0 IMR7828 = 2050 fps 105.0 Reloader15 = 2291 fps I suggest comparing these powders on a burn rate chart to the Norma offerings.

Andre, Dittos what Jeff said. When I purchased the barrel and brass from a friend, I was more or less given 200 600 gr cast bullets. The 500 Jeffrey is exspensive enough just for brass and powder. I plan to use the 570 gr Barnes X for hunting, but practice will be with cast. I used 100 gr of Varget with a 535 gr cast and got 2250 fps. Once you find a powder with an appropriate burn speed locally, I don't think you'll have any problem pushing a 535 gr bullet 2300 fps, I'm sure you could get anouther 100-200 fps without pushing things, well, except your shoulder

JeffeyDenmark, This is simulation data, but it is typically very close. I realize you do not have IMR4350, but it is supposed to be practically identical to VVN 150. Having said that, here is what the computer says: 535 grain Woodleigh 500 Jeffery - Bertram brass with capacity of 153 gr of water 122.7 grains of IMR 4350 Muzzle velocity - 2308 fps Chamber pressure - 40,573 psi (279.74 MPa) Load density - 102.2 % I like very lightly compressed loads (like 102.2%). In my experience they provide the best accuracy, so that is why I modeled this powder. The others have given you powders which will achieve the desired velocity at lower load densities i.e. less than 100%. Good luck with your load development. ASS_CLOWN

I've used both Varget and RL 15, both ignited with a Federal 215. So far I've only used the starting loads of 100 gr of either powder, and they propell a 600 gr cast bullet 2200 fps from my 25" barreled 500 Jeffrey. I haven't tried N540, but would expect it to be of the correct burning rate.

Andre, I read somewhere that Reloader XX is exactly the same powder as Norma XXX, they're made by the same manufacturer but labelled differently for Reloader and Norma. This would greatly lessen the effort on your part as you seem to already have some reloading data on the Reloader powder? Now if I could only remember where I read about this...
