Finally shot the Taylor today. Did first shot offhand JUST IN CASE, after the shot I turned to my girlfriend with a big smile and said "That wasn't bad."

All in all I fired 14 rounds today wearing just a T-shirt and no problems. Albeit the loads have yet to reach full potential, (350gr doing 2350fps, 400gr doing 2150fps) it still shouldn't be that bad. I was VERY impressed to say the least. I am generally pretty recoil proof (NOT counting handguns past 45 Colt, they scare the living hell out of me), but that doesn't mean I enjoy getting the snot knocked out of me. I didn't experience any of that with the 416 Taylor, I would think that ANYONE could shot one of these if properly set up.

I have been on the receiving end of alot worse, mostly 12ga shotguns in various forms (and ex-mother-in-laws). Nope, accept for a little bit of muzzle left it was a pleasure to shoot. The 4 miles of eye-relief with the Leupold is ALWAYS helpful.

VZ-24 w/hinged floorplate, Decelarator (sic) pad, 23" #5 Douglas barrel, laminated stock with crossbolt and a 2 1/2x Leupold.

I plan on chopping a few inches off the forend and adding a barrel band but that is about it for now.

Thanks. You know me Mike, Steelhead on 24 Hour.

Harvey King in Selma,AL did the work. I actually bought it from SamB (Firefly arms?)on this site last year. It was a 35 Whelen at the time. Harvey did the barrel and feed work, along with recoil pad and blueing.

Sam already had it ready to go, I just decided to add a 416 to the battery.

Oh yea, weight is just a hair over 9 1/2 pounds with scope on board.

I found that with my Taylor those vel. are nice to shot add nother 100fps to the 350s and then 200 to the 400gr bullet you well notice the recoil a bit more.

But the more I shoot it the less recoil sensitive I become or is it being brain numbed.

I loaded some 300gr bullets at 2250 they are very nice to shoot. Then push them to 2620 that is a little more stout.

Two weeks from now we are having doe only hunt I plan to wack a few ith it then

Have fun

Very nice Rig...the .416 Taylor seems to appeal to me I's like to re-do a stainless Ruger .338 into one one day.

Welcome.

As you found out, shooting the larger bores off-hand is usually not as painful as most people think.

How was the accuracy?

George
