Anybody here got one? What do you think of it? I was thinking about getting a Ruger #1 458 opened up to the Ackley version.

I have a CZ 602 in .450 Ackley that started life as a .458. I could not get the velocity I wanted out of the .458 case, so had it redone in the Ackley caliber. I do indeed like it! I can get an honest 2,380 fps out of it with 500 gr. bullets, which does all I need. I use reformed .375s for fun and have some A-Square cases for trips to Africa. In the CZ it certainly does kick.

Hi Nobade,
You'll really like the 450 Ackley. It's a great cartridge. Try WW748 powder for reloading. I've got 2380 also with 96 grains of 748 with good accuracy. I shot Hornady 500 grain softs and solids. The WW748 powder burns at a lower temperature and is temperature stable. You'll want to change the recoil pad from the stock Ruger pad. You know I'll recomend the Pachmayer triple x magnum pad to make it a softer shooter. The case is still a little small volume wise for the Barnes Solids. Check out the comparisons of the 450 Ackley with other big bores on my sight at www.470mbogo.com and go to the Comparing the Big Bores section. 470 Mbogo
