I need to scope my new 375/338 Winchester Mag. This gun was put together by Bear Claw using my McGowen barrel on a Interarms Mark X action. I was thinking of putting my Leupold M8-3x on this rifle. Then I thought a 1-4, 1 3/4-5 or a 2-7 might be more appropriate. What do you think? I'm going to use this rifle mostly for hunting bears and moose in Canada.

tsturm,

I will be sure to let you know how I like this rifle. I'll start shooting it as soon as it gets back from being blued.

The .375 (any kind) cries out for a 1.5x6 scope...mine is a Swarovski ProHunter but if you like the Leupold it will do.

If you are going to use a Leupold, take a look at the 1.75x6. I also like the 1.5x5, but that small 1" objective lens can't let in as much light as a scope with a bigger lens in front. Or if you want to spend more money look at the LPS in 1.5x6.

Craig
Go for the 1,75-6x32, it gives you a bit more light gathering on cloudy days and in dense woods / bush.
Used one on my 375 H&H for years...works great !!

Craig I have a 2-7 vari x11 on my .416 and I am happy with it my mate has one on his .416 as well, I have only put 40 rounds now through mine, but my mate has put through 100 rounds now with no dramas. There good value have good eye releif and good field of view. They would probably suit a .375 H&H really well, it is what I will mount when I get a .375.

Regards PC.

The 2-7X Leupold would be hard to beat, since it sounds like your round is capable of more than just short ranges.

I have a 2.5x Leupold on my .416 Rem. Model 70 and it works great! I would put the 3x on that rifle (or sell it to me )

I've had a Burris signature series, (1.5 - 5x I think) on my .375H&H for about 5 years and although a little heavier than the Leupold, when I compared them side-by-side the Burris I thought was a little clearer. The dealer, who sold both, mounted them both on stocks and I could switch back and forth quickly. All my other scopes are Leupold but you may want to look at the Burris also.

My .375 H & H wears a 2-7 Vari-X II, and I'm very happy with it. I don't think you'll find much difference in it and the VAri-X III 1.75-6 Extended in terms of utility, but there is some anecdotal information that the Vari-X II's take recoil a bit better than the III's. Don't know this to be the case, but there could be something to it.
